I'm in the un-enviable position of needing a new Nav/Radio head unit on my '06 997.1 C2S..
As long as I'm replacing it, can I put in a newer one with touch screen capabilities?
TPS and everything crapped out...and it's out of warranty.
So, does anybody know if I can replace it with a newer model?
****,
Jason

are you sure it is it?
i would try ebay first, but, well, it is tricky. honestly, why do you care of TPS? if unit is a toast honestly i would probably put a pioneer of similar instead. will be probably cheaper.

But the Pioneer doesn't fit in stock location, right?
Does it still interface with PCM unit, or are you suggesting total replacement?
I'd prefer it to look stock, if possible.

I can't answer you on stock but I upgraded my head unit to a kenwood (double din) I know have Sirius, Gamin Nav, Blutooth, and dvd player.
I new when I bought the car this would be the first thing I bought and I am extremely happy with it and I use all functions including the DVD player when I take the kids to school.

The Pioneer unit(s) are Double Din form factor. Any Double Din bezel made for Porsche (997) should work just fine. Do a search on this forum as well as others to find out what other folks have used.
Good Luck . . .

You can get that unit repaired by Becker Autosound. They are the original equipment manufacturer and they have a repair operation in the US. You can ship your unit to them and they will repair and warranty it. beckerautosound.com

Wow...Thanks for that info!!
Does the Pioneer unit work with the Bose sound/wiring and such? I really thought it was all proprietary and you couldn't do anything.
I must admit, that Porsche was a bit behind the times, and the touch screen technology is so much better!

No...the Porsche Head Unit uses fiber optics. You'll have to replace the amp and speakers. I guess if I were you I'd try to find a re-manufactured PCM with a warranty or even have yours repaired. You will loose some of your functions the PCM gives you if you upgrade. If you have steering wheel controls Pioneer makes an integration module that will keep these functions. I guess it depends on how much it costs for the PCM. If you start getting into the $2k-3K range you might consider upgrading to an aftermarket set-up with better sound and navigation. You'll have to research to see what other functions you might loose on your dash. These new head units are getting pretty sophisticated so let us know how you make out.
Check this one out on ebay.

I'm selling an Alpine headunit on ebay. It was previously installed in my non-bose 987. You can buy a fit kit for your 997.1 from Euromotorspeed through ebay.
