Fabspeed Carbon Intake on 997.2 adds power
Best purchasing decision I've made in a very long time. Car feels significantly faster due to the audible experience....and visual presence of the PSM light clicking on in places it never did before.
Install took 10 minutes and could be reversed in same.
The intake in combination with the Fabspeed Primary bypass and Maxflo Muffler on loud the car sounds incredible...even if there was no power increase or even a loss of power..I'd still do it all over again just for the sound.
In anticipation of wanting to verify if there was a power increase or not, I did two set of runs....one before install and one after install.
There is so much discussion on the forum regarding power loss due to heat soak, Dyno verification etc. etc.
The runs were done from a set start RPM coasting then full throttle to another set end RPM timed with phone timer.
Same exact road, same 1/2 Tank Gas, same temp 55F same humidity for both runs, same driver, no other weight in car, 09' 997.2 Cab with Top up all runs, same HVAC setting.
First Run:
Pre install times: 5.8,5.3,6.1,5.7,5.7,5.6 (Ave :w/o high and low= 5.7)
Post install times: 5.2,5.4,5.6,5.3,5.2 ("Ave"=5.3)
Second Run: different gear/RPM Range/Speed:
Pre: 5.9, 5.6, 5.4, 5.7
Third Run: Again different gear/RPM Range/Speed.
This one was the most dramatic difference. This run was a 5th gear pull, with greater resistance due to a lower starting RPM.
Pre: 10.1, 9.7, 10.7, 9.4, 9.4
Given different ambient temps I'm sure you'd have different results for better or worse....all of which is totally irrelevant because all I want to do is drive and hear that engine roar!!!! In fact I'm going for another drive right now...

Just kidding. It is rewarding when you get the results you wanted.

Don't dare play a CD of exhaust noises in your BMW either...that's BMW's baby.

Looking forward to installing this into my new GTS. If I have time I'll duplicate the test from my previous 997.2 S. There is no question in my mind that the carbon intake adds power. Of course I do live in a temperate climate- the intake might yield different(negative or a wash effect) if I lived somewhere hot perhaps.

Awesome write up sbporsche , thanks for the data and feedback on the Fabspeed intake. Its always exciting and rewarding to see our customers test our products on their own and get the results they want. It really is a great intake that enhances the everyday drive. I look forward to hearing your response on the GTS as well.
Thanks again for everything and let us know if you ever need anything else or have any questions at all. Enjoy
