Default shift cable broke

around T4 at summit point, no less. oh well.

the damn right hand side cable sheared about 1/2way betw gearshift and trans. i'm assuming i have to get a whole new unit (997-424-041-01?) and cant just buy the cable/shove it back down/connect it to trans, right? anyone have a DIY or pix of how to do this? my center console is already out and i can disconnect the other cable no prob. is it as easy as removing the (handbrake?) assembly so that i can get to the opening where this new unit will go thru the body, to the trans?

any help would be appreciated...

I feel for you. The cable in my '05 broke also. Luckily the car was at the gate to my community and the transmission in 1st at the time, so I could limp home. I had it flat-bedded to the dealer the next morning and let them replace it. It's a $500 job at the dealer, but my extended warranty (you know, the ones some people insist is a rip off ) paid for it.
