I'll Bite,
You can check the codes for the paint and check the interior leather source through Porsche. You may have been comparing Black with Basalt Black, and the interior may be a full leather on one car and Black plastic pieces on the other, possibly a color difference there.

You may be right, but I think it was something more than "basalt vs black" or "leather vs plastic." My 997 Black Edition black seems more visceral. More of a "raw" black, if you will, while the 991 black color seems "processed" and "artificial". The Black Edition seems to scream out "I'm a BLACK colored car" in the voice of a true race car driver, while the 991 merely whispers, "I'm without color", in a computer-generated, nanny voice.
Just sayin.

I can't take much more...
If you're serious, you gotta post some pics of your raw and visceral black edition next to the artificial nanny voiced 991 black, so we can see the difference.

I agree my 997 Metallic Blue is much bluer than the 991 Metallic Blue, mine screams "I'm Rick James, Biatch" while the 991 murmurs "I'm Justin Bieber"
I'm still on the waiting list for the 998... Just saying!
Love this thread!!! Truly AWESOME!

At the very least, we have a winner for most times the word "black" has been used in a single post.
...and perhaps 997 vs. 991 threads make us bitchy and whiny because the threads themselves are bitchy and whiny!
by the way, my car is Meteor Grey, have not yet been able to compare it to an actual meteor.

Since there are no Blue Turquoise 991s yet (if there ever are any) I will have to wait to see if the 991 BT is bluer than the 997 TB... Meanwhile, I think you have something with a PTS Blackhole Black--it will be the best defense against all radar and laser sensors!

hey guys, in case it wasn't obvious, my original post was with tongue firmly in cheek. I'm indeed a newbie who purchased my first Porsche (a Black Edition) about five months ago.
I've owned BMWs for twenty years and started thinking Porsche about a year ago. A friend recommended Rennlist to get familiar with the brand so I quietly followed the board for months. My first (naive and foolish) impression was that you guys were a bunch of 911 geeks. Slowly dawned on me how knowledgeable you guys are and my respect grew. Then I bought my Porsche and it was like a when the world turns colorful in the Wizard of Oz. Haven't felt like this since I was 17 and bought a used 65 VW bug for $800. It's not so much the performance as it is the relationship. My Pcar and me are like best friends now. Just getting to know each other, but the start of a beautiful relationship.
Anyway, you guys are an awesome group. I love the infighting that goes on in the board but how you all manage to get along. And I now finally understand the devotion that you all display for the sanctity of the brand. I'm humbled.
