2006 C2S

Only issue under the original warranty was replacement of some interior trim parts.

Currently have an extended warranty, only issue was the replacement of the cigarette lighter and I don't even smoke!

Knock on wood ...other than the above, absolutely zero issues. The car has been outstanding, still tight as a drum with no rattles or squeaks. At this point, I'm seriously doubting whether my extended warranty will pay for itself - which is a win for me either way, as I'll be thrilled to have my car continue to run faultless.

2006 - c2s

current miles - 13,600

1st major - coolant res cap - $34
2nd major - rubber grommet on washer res. - $5

Life on the ragged "edge" for me !

How many miles you drive annually is a big part of the "if you buy warranty" answer. The more miles you drive the more you're exposed to potential break downs. In my case the car sees low miles. Extended warr would most likely never pay off.

Due to house remodel, my garage is not in tip top shape. Otherwise, I would have gotten around to replacing the pump myself - I enjoy that kind of stuff.

$350 Porsche Water Pump
$55 Belt
$40 Antifreeze
$6 Thermostat Gasket
$10 Water Pump Gasket
$80 Thermostat

~$541 parts
~$480 labor

Peanuts - when compared to an untimely pump failure.

^^^exactly what I paid yesterday at an Indy for the same work. Needed new belt (which is cheap) because it had gotten "glazed" by the leaking coolant.

2000 Boxster - 70,000 miles in 4 years. Had IMS seal replaced, top replaced for cracked rear window (at 51,000 miles under warranty), window regulator under warranty, and the crankcase ventilation thingy replaced under warranty, oxygen sensor replaced under warranty.

2005 996 Cab - 40,000 miles only problems were I hit a deer on the way to work one morning and I got rear ended by a teenage girl talking on her cell phone while stopped at a red light.

2008 997.1 - around 15,000 miles. No problems

2009 997.2 C2S Cab - 30,000 miles. Warranty work to replace HPFP (was working fine at the time) and repair of muffler brackets where there was a recall.

I've had more trouble with my Lexus LX 470 and 570 than with the Porsches.

For the mileage or lack of I plan on driving this car, it's probally not worth buying and extended warranty.

I have 19K, max 5k per year, total after three more years, approx 35K, hopefully nothing major goes wrong between now and then. NK

That is a heck of a price. Do you know which warranty company and if your dealer would sell one to me?

I have a 2007 4S I just got. Debating the extended warranty also.

Thanks!

It would be nice to hear from those who have had minimal problems, but not necessarilly engine block / crack failures.

I ask this because I am considering purchasing an aftermarket warranty from my Porsche dealer 4 yrs 48K for $1600.00 which is a real bargain. I was quoted $2600.00 from two other Porsche dealers which tells me these warranty's are negotiable!!!!

Info requested:

Year: 2006

Model: Carrera S (997)

Current Mileage: 19550

1st Major Problem / Mileage: Rear Engine Seal @ 18500

Cost of Repair: $1200.00

Warranty or Living On The Edge!!!: "Edge"

Thx

PS. btw, we got the EXACT same car!

OK - going off topic here. But I think I have a twin of Alex's C4S and am also curious about the looks of MJs C2S.

See attached pic -

My car has aftermarket tinted windows. They aren't very well done. The view out the back window at night is very distorted, there is a wrinkle in the passenger door, and the driver's door was coming loose at the bottom with the constant action of the window up/down when opening/closing the door. I also don't know if this tint level is legal in Chicago (bought the car in FL).

I'm either going to re-do it completely or remove. Curious what this color 997 looks like without tint or different levels of tint.

Either of you have pics to share?

(Called Porsche of Stratham on the warranty - waiting for a call back.)

2007 C2S Never a problem... factory warranty ran out last year. The car has never had a single expense beyond service when under warranty. I previously had a 99 C2 and when I sold it with 58,000 miles it never had an expense except normal maintenance and wear items. I do my own services and service often. I change oil before 5,000. Clean air filter, clean oil, clean gear oil, radiator full, fresh brake fluid.....what can go wrong. These are well made cars, why do we expect our Toyota to last forever and our 911 to blow up. Relax....enjoy the fruits of your labor. Worrying will not bring you luck.
