997.2 Buyer's Dilemma and GF is sick of hearing it
Hi guys,
I'm new here and could use your help. Here's my delightful dilemma, which the GF is sick of hearing:
A quick background - My porsche days started with a 06 Cayman S. I bought it slightly used and loved it, but when warranty ran out, I traded it for an 09 M3 (all options including the automatic). It was a great car, especially in the winter but I miss the 6-spd porsche days. And now I'm back in the market and am considering a 2009 Carrera S (997.2) CPO with 14K miles for $70K. I've taken a liking to this one because its got the porsche Limited-Slip Diff option and it's a CPO until late 2014. Is this a good deal? How important is the LSD? It'll be my DD and maybe a couple of track days a year. The original MSRP was $99K. My other option would be to hold off until summer and buy the 2013 Cayman S. Not my first option, but it should be within the same price range and it too is an amazing car. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I bought an '09 C2S with 9k miles in Nov 2010 for $69k, it has PDK, but no nav or LSD. Yours sounds like an OK deal but not great. I'd like to have LSD but it was kind of a rare option, not sure I miss it.

I don't think that's a bad deal but not necessarily a great deal. I just purchased what sounds like the exact same spec'd car...limited slip, cpo, etc. for over $2k less. If $70k was their starting price you have room to haggle. If that's with negotiations complete then it's up to you...if someone else buys it tomorrow will you regret not buying it?

Negotiate it down to high 60s and buy it, just ensure you like the exterior/interior color and options and you'd be happy with the car I am 100% sure.

I bought my 997 C2 (not S) with similar spec about 6 months ago for 65k, it's a 2009 (CPO until July 2015), and had less miles, new tires all around, brakes just done, 2yr service done. Service records, DME, and warranty claims were super clean. Just regular services and an HPFP replacement.
The price sounds decent, especially if it's a desirable color combination. When I was looking 2009 S's were closer to 75k. With 991 launch and 6mo depreciation there is your 5k+.
Buy it if you like it. I don't regret not waiting one bit. Love the car.
