Default Wheel offset question

Guys,

I've searched and can't find an answer so I'm hoping to get some feedback.
Recently bought a 997S and am looking for some aftermarket wheels. On the front ... I'm pretty sure stock Carrera II wheel is 19x8 ET57. HRE (great company) is recommending a 19x8.5 ET51. My calculations of this result in the wheel face moving out about 12mm from stock. This seems a bit much to me .... I thought 7mm would be good.

Thoughts, experience? Thanks in advance ....

Tom

I agree, that is too agressive of an offset. The tire/wheel will be flush with the top of the fender opening. I have a 997.2 and wouldn't go with that offset.

Could someone please explain the concept of wheel width / offset and how it affects the wheel positioning? Sorry to ask, I've just seen so many questions regarding 'offset' and never really understood.

I believe HRE has recommended a good fitment.

A lot of Carreras (like mine) came from the factory with 5mm wheel spacers. With the 5mm spacers fitted the tire is still aprox 10mm in from the fender. If the wheels comes out another 7mm you'll still be inside the fender by a couple mm.

That fitment sounds perfect to me. Probably exactly what I'd shoot for if I was changing wheels. The look will be perfect and rubbing shouldn't be an issue.
