All that tool does is holds the stick in an upright position while you adjust the cables. It does nothing else. It is so that your stick is not crooked in neutral. It should have no affect on shifting performance... assuming of course that you have the sense to get the stick somewhere near straight on your own. Said another way, having the stick crooked does not put your shifter or any mechanism out of whack. The click stops for the shifter are inside the transmission, not at the shifter... The position of the shifter is nothing more than a cosmetic thing... again assuming it is not laying all the way over one way or another.
