When I go to the food market in my 997.1 Targa I park far away from the market and walk. In my fear of being dinged I will often take up more than 1 space as long as there are lots of spaces available. Yesterday I did the same only to return to my car and find a Post-it note on the window. " You are an a--hole to use more than 1 space and your car is not that hot". Now I like my car and try to take care of it without really bothering anyone, but what idiot carries post-it notes to the market with them to leave on windshields?

The kind of idiot that doesn't like it when people take up two parking spaces for their expensive cars. Could be a long list.

taking two spots is a big no no. I park far away from the crowd and always next to a concrete divider at the end of the lot, so at least I reduce the risk to 50%. consider yourself lucky you just got a note... they could've keyed your car to teach you a lesson...

FWIW, I never take 2 spaces as it's an invitation to the kind of reaction you got or much worse. Away from other cars, end spaces, corner spaces, extra wide spaces, etc., yes. Two spaces, no.

What stopped you from parking way away from everyone and only taking up one spot? I do it all the time and never get notes.

To the OP: you were lucky it was a nice 'Post-It' note... Very lucky! These days, even people who do not abuse parking spots (like you did) come back to a keyed car - just read 'Two for the Road' in the Feb 2012 issue of Panorama, page 6.

taking up 2 spaces is a sure way to get keyed or dinged or something else. Stick to one space.

here is my checklist for parking spots.

1: park at the farthest corner of the lot.
2: no car next to your parking spot. no spot in front of you (unless there is a concrete barrier)
3: planter on the right of the car
4: no wires or light fixtures directly overhead.
5: avoid flightpath between trees and water source
6: apply ding protector to door
7: if other cars are in adjacent spots, take pictures of their license plates

As you can imagine, If I go shopping with my wife, she usually wants us to take her car, due to the delays and walking involved when we take the porsche.

I have, on several occasions, parked my car and then moved it to a "better" spot (i.e., further away from the other cars, closer to the front door, in a larger parking space, away from trees, etc.). But I never take up two spaces.

Sad to say, I've actually done all of these myself at some point, although rarely at the same time. (Does a cover count as a ding protector?) We're all slightly nuts.......

What you need to do is park in an end space and park wide so your wheels on one side are just slightly over the parking line of the very last row. You might be slightly sticking out on the end, but you're not taking up two spaces. This still leaves a gap in case a car decides to park next to you and you won't be called an a--hole who takes up two spaces all the time.

I'm thinkin' NJtarga4 has gotten the point by now.
Wanting to protect your beautiful car from possible door-dings doesn't make you a bad person, but...
here's something to think about.
As Porsche drivers, we all pretty much represent each other (ALL other Porsche drivers) when we're out in our cars. The stuff we do reflects on all of us. Taking up two parking spots drives people nuts. It's like leaving a sign on your car that reads, "I am so much better than the rest of you; look at my expensive sports car!"

I'm pretty sure this is how BMW drivers got their lousy reputation. The young turks in their "M" cars are among the worst drivers on the roads here in California.
