Perhaps that explains why it's getting discounted. When you do the math, things don't really add up.

Champion sells a similar kit installed for about $10K. I say "about" because it's somewhat negotiable.

I just bought an '07C2S for $53K, I looked hard at a few X51 cars, plus the option of the Champion kit...as mentioned if I had an extra $10-15K to spend it ALMOST puts you in GT3 territory....

But I figured for the extra $10 Grand I could just buy a spec Miata on the side and flog the heck out of that....until I watched the videos of the spec miata club races....they are a full MINUTE slower around Daytona than we go on the bikes....SO

I just went with the C2S and am enjoying driving the heck out of it. What a great car and a huge step up from my old Boxster S. And a completely different experience from the '02 Turbo. Tight, quick steering, smooth, quick....I love it!

In the $10K-$15K range forced induction would be a viable option/alternative and provide HP in the 400-500 range. Plus these types of kits are very doable DIY projects for those with mid to advanced mechanical skills.

Im sure I can drop a few hundred pounds on my C2S to equal the difference in power. Not sure sure I could drop enough to match the current GTS 408 hp though.

This makes a lot of sense for people who drive their cars on the track. An engine that sees track work gets worn out much, much sooner. So will need a rebuild. Instead of rebuilding the whole engine for much of a similar (or even more expensive) cost, this will be a much better solution.

Does anybody have tech spec information on the x51 camshafts like duration and lift?

I think I'd save the $10K and put it towards a GTS.

its always cheaper to keep what you've got... especially if you've set it up for the track... you can get 400+ out of a 3.8 x51 with some cats and a new tune... no prob

The X51 kit for the 997 cars does not have different camshafts. That is for the 996 cars.

IMO the biggest bang for the buck is changing the cats.

I have AWE, Headers, Cats, Remus Exhaust, IPD plenum, X-51 Airbox, RSS modified TB, center radiator, and APR software. Currently have 28K om my car and recently drove a 6K 2011 or 12's C2S at Barbers in the Porsche Driving school and my car feels faster. I have never put it on a dyno I am just very happy with the way it runs.

The only thing I don't have from the x-51 kit is the heads and the bigger intake. Doubt I need it or it is worth the expense.

+1 on cats.... they do give you nice mid and top end gain....

what size is your RSS modified TB? what was stock size?

the components you have will work nicely together as you are getting more air in and out and have the software upgrade to take advantage of this.....
what model year is your 997S ?

the description on the web page says camshafts are part of the X51 kit...

It does so by thoroughly revising the way a 911 breathes. A modified carbon-fiber air filter housing, plus revised, race-tuned camshafts and cylinder heads together draw in more air/fuel mixture with each intake "breath."

"So what is X51? Is it a good option for 997 buyers with a need for speed or the world's most expensive intake, exhaust, and remapped ECU? Before you think it's the latter, know that ticking the box marked X51 adds far more than a pair of new mufflers, a revised airbox, and different spark/ignition tuning. Revised cylinder heads, new exhaust headers, camshafts with more aggressive profiles, a different Varioram intake plenum, and new programming for the Bosch Motronic engine management are utilized to add more grunt to the normal Carrera S's 3.8-liter flat six. So the 26 horses and 11 lb-ft didn't come to Weissach so easily, after all."

there is no way the kit is making that kind of torque curve without more aggressive cams... kind of makes you wonder how fast the car would be if they went more aggressive on the cams than x51.. probably would give you GT3 power from 4500 and beyond but limp down low... tradeoff I suppose...
