Just a heads up that Suncoast has a pretty good deal on their X51 factory kits for the MY05 through MY08 S cars.

Still good chunk of change, but if someone had a plan to rebuild, this is a perfect kit.
One thing I am not sure, since you MUST flash the ECU for extra power, then is dealer install A MUST? or can an indy do this as well?

Well, you could have just followed the link, but here is the kit:
My guy said just doing the Cylinder heads is a 22hr job... translation to English, $$$$
Kit consists of
- Cylinder heads with flow-optimized intake and exhaust ports
- Intake Manifold & Throttle Body - Increases inlet size from 76 mm to 82 mm
- X51 Headers - larger cross-section and optimized flow behavior
- Carbon Fiber Airbox with two intake channels
- Modified maps for the DME control unit
- Sport Exhaust with Chrome Tips
- Third Radiator Kit (for manual transmission cars)
- Increased Engine Speed

so from start to end, this looks like a 15k job. That's the difference between a used 997 C2S and used 997 GT3

There is an important factor that must be taken into consideration if anyone's car has 25k miles or more. For cars 25k miles or more, page 2 of the Porsche Technical Information "Performance Increase Kit Installation Instructions (I No. X51)" clearly states that - and I quote - "if the engine to be converted has over 25,000 miles (40,000km), the crankshaft main bearing and the connecting rod bearings must also be replaced. If there is obvious wear on the rod bushings (scored), the connecting rods must also be replaced."
This should be taken in consideration if anyone's car has 25k miles or more on the motor because it will add a substantial amount of expense on top of the cost of the kit (even if discounted) plus labor.
The Powerkit only makes sense if you can find an used car with it already on. While I absolutely love the kit, if I had that amount of cash nowadays to spend on a car that is, at best, 3 to 4 years old, I would add that to the sales proceed of the car as is and buy a Turbo, GT3 or a 997.2 Carrera or Carrera S. Yes, my car has 381 hp and 306 lb.ft of torque which is almost the same as a 997.2 Carrera S but, in the latter case you get more than just a power increase - you get all the other improvements in a better engine design, chassis and electronics. The newer the 997.1 Carrera S, the less it makes sense to invest in this, as the price gap between the choices mentioned narrows markedly. I say this from my own experience.
Now... a 2006 Carrera S with X51 in it and miles in the mid 40k range for $55k or nearest offer is the way to go since you save the $15k-20k over getting a 997 Turbo, GT3 or 997.2 car. Just a thought...

I agree with Cyber... this is GREAT for people who are already rebuilding their engine, otherwise, the upgrade is absolutely not worth the effort and/or cost.
