Hardwire to the fuse box. The savy is for people who absolutely know nothing about cars. But most of us, with the help from our brothers, know which plug is free and which can be used to power up the rd. savy is valentines way of tapping the market, its not the best way to install a v1

As buddha wrote, I too found the Savvy bulky and did not like the way it stuck out from the port in my 993 or my 997.2. As slickyrick says, easy to hardwire into the fusebox which is how I have my V1 set up in both the 997.2 and my 2001 S4. Unfortunately the fusebox on the 993 is in the boot not the cabin so I simply use the coiled plug for the ciglighter in the 993. Note of caution to anyone using this last method, the ciglighter is not switched in my 993 and I managed to drain my battery by inadvertently leaving the V1 both plugged in and switched on (duh). Now I unplug it whenever I leave the car.

I'll put my three degrees in Mechanical Engineering and 15 years restoring VW's and Saabs up as collateral demonstrating I know something about cars. A hardwired application is fine, but having an ability to set the V1 for low speed false alarm rejection in Ka was what sold me on the Savvy. Given the OPs issue of OBD placement being the issue in a 991, I agree that a hardwire application is a smart move. Suggesting that the only people who'll want a Savvy are people who know nothing about cars is, well, wrong.

I would agree to NOT merely purchase the Savvy to avoid wiring into the fusebox. I don't have ANY degrees in Mechanical Engineering, nor do I have any extensive history with car restorations. Based on write-ups and pictures here, on teamspeed and on 6speedonline, I was able to easily use an add a fuse device to wire into the fusebox. I am generally incapable of doing anything to my car that hasn't been presented to me detailed both in writing and with pictures.

I think the Savvy does have a place, and is desirable for its purposes, but please don't feel you need to buy it simply for wiring purposes.

Kevin

I did the install as listed in this post....

I got a valentine one with Savy for my 997.2 I have it wired up the window coming out near the rear view mirror. Recently I have been having AM interference. It's a constant AM signal drone that has been driving me crazy. Today on my drive I wondered if it had to do with my V1.

I unplugged the wire from the V1 and the interference was still there. I pulled the Savy out of the OBD...interference gone. So for some reason the Savy is sending an interfering signal up the wire.

Anybody else having this issue? Any advise on what I can do to stop the interference? I know that I can hard wire it but I'm looking for another option so that I can continue using the Savy.

Thanks,

Jason
