In market to buy 997 S
#18
I'm also looking for a 997 S as my first PCar. I found this listing on-line not too far from me. Do you see any immediate red flags about this listing before I contact the dealer? It's the color combination and options I'm looking for a decent price. Thanks!!

aside from the draped leather, it looks good. Many dont like draped leather, I dont mind it in black but it does seem to show more age than the regular leather/pleather seats. Priced rather well too based on miles etc. I first thought it was a c2 b/c the price seemed low.

Yank,
That is a KILLER price for that car. Beware, though - from the VIN I can tell that the production date is early in the 06 S run, so you might not have the upgraded IMS. Otherwise, make sure to get a good PPI and if it checks out, GRAB IT!

You should also ask Tom Wood why it's not a CPO candidate. That could be a red flag, I guess. But it shouldn't necessarily stop you. See the current thread subject, "Porsche dealer not willing/able to CPO a car they are selling..??"

Thanks for the quick feedback. How do I tell if it has the upgraded IMS? If not, I can just get the LN replacement at that price. I'll try to get the DME report from the dealer before I go to look at it. I'm new to this, how can I tell if it has PSE? From the CarFax, it looks like the dealer has had it since mid December so they might be willing to deal some more. On the other hand, I'm sure there is a reason it hasn't sold yet.
I'm looking for something to drive and not worry about it getting any little chip or scratch so it does not need to be perfect cosmetically. I'll also ask about a CPO.

That does look like a pretty good price.
From the buttons on the console it does not appear to have PSE, but you can ask the dealer.
One thing I have learned looking for my car is how to look at all the buttons on the console to figure out the options like PASM, heated seats, PSE

I checked the options with AutoAtlanta's VIN-based options checker. It doesn't have PSE. But it does have nav, so that's good...
Regarding the IMS - you're probably OK. See the current thread (started by me!) asking 06 owners for their engine numbers and production dates. I came to the conclusion that all 06 S cars have the upgraded IMS. I just hope I'm right!

Last Fall I had my car serviced at Tom Wood Porsche before I brought her home.
Service manager was great, here's his e-mail to enquire if needed.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I'm going to ask the dealer about a CPO and for a copy of the DME.
MGordon, can you PM me the results of the VIN options checker? I don't have access to the data you referenced.
Also, what does the button located between the raise spoiler and sport buttons do?
