Thanks for posting... but it should have been compared to Z06. I'd take any Porsche over Vette anyways!

I'm still waiting to see how "Hot Rod" magazine likes it.

Thanks for the link. They really did like it didn't they? Just amazing though, that they failed to spend at least a couple of sentences complaining about the extra lettering on the rear deck or how you have to remove the fan panel to do an oil change, since we all know how critical those things are........
Do you think the Z06 would have been lots better in the wet?

$131,760. vs near 70K car.... + a comparison in snow/rain.... why don't they compare the 991S vs a Veyron in a sand pit? I mean really, just hate when they shoot out two cars with such a different price gap... a fair comparison would be a 991S vs a ZR1.... even then the ZR1 would save you some $$$.
I don't do any spiriting driving in the rain...but that's just me. Enjoy to read any write up on 911's though so thanks for posting...
America is coming out with some amazing cars....and ones in the 60K range that will actually compare performance wise with the 991. The new Mustang Shelby GT500 (stock 680hp) 1/4 times and 0-60 times close to the 991 as does the new Camaro ZL1 has some great numbers and both cars noted lap the ring as fast as a 991... in mid 7 minute range...
Only noting that in the pure performance spectrum its a great time to be a car enthusiast.... new 991 out, NSX soon, new viper under development and more!

'09+ z06 is a hellish car, great power, but i would never be able to run it for daily tasks as i can run my 997.
i keep dreaming of getting z06 and stripping it into track only car. engine is cheaper, parts are cheaper, twice the power i have now, all in all - all winners.
but for street it is useless and i hate how seat is positioned. it will need a lot of work to make it all feel as i would like it.
i stil think z06 is a better overall value over new camaro and new gt500 mustang. but who knows. all are great cars.

NOT A CHANCE! Even with my lowly S4 whenever it rained, was lapping Vettes with such ease it wasn't even funny. I actually try to stay away from Vettes and Mustangs on track at ALL TIMES, literally every session at least one of them spins or lose control somehow. The closest I ever came to crash on track was when I was pushing behind a Vette and he was trying to pull away and totally lost control in a chicane, and I missed him by 2 inches!
Z06 is a lot closer price-wise, so would have been fairer comparison as far as pure performance is concerned, but for their basic review it probably wouldn't have mattered anyways.

I personally take all the car mags' reviews with a large dose of salt. After all, they are hosted by Porsche at the SB Biltmore, wined and dined, and then given a Carrera to flog for a day or two, and then what sort of review do you really think you're going to get? Do you think after a bad review they're going to be on the return invite list for the 992?

wow, flashback,
one of the authors (Kim Reynolds-Testing Director and Vehicle Dynamics Maniac) was on my crew team in college. I haven't seen him in 30 years. I remember, he started working for them while still in college. I guess that job worked out pretty well huh Kim.

If you were comparing washing machines, you would never do a test like that where one is almost 2X the price of the other. This merely points out that there are better value options out there.
