Default A simple CPO question

A local dealer is telling me that they can CPO a 2006 car and the CPO will last for 2 years. Does that make sense? I was under the impression that once a car hits the 6 year mark, whatever warranty it has is done. So if a dealer CPOs a car with an in-service date of 6/2006, that CPO would last approximately 4 more months (i.e. until 6/2012). This dealer is saying that it would last until 2/2014.

What's the real expiration date?

Thanks in advance,
-Mike

The FAQ section here will help you:

8 years after the in service date. After the new car warranty, the CPO is good for an additional 2 years and 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Dealer is correct.

There are two scenarios according to that link:

If you purchase the car and it's still under the original warranty then they will extend it by another 2 years from the end of the original warranty up to 100,000 miles.

The other scenario is if you purchase the car outside the original warranty they give a 2 year warranty from the date of the sale up to 100,000 miles. The car can be a maximum of 8 years old and have done less than 100,000 miles.

Dealer is right, you'll get it for 2 years, up to 100,000 miles from your date of purchase.

If you have any doubt, the CPO is worth getting!

I got a 2006 Carrera last month with 72k miles on it. My CPO coverage is good for 2 years or 100k miles, which ever comes first.

I'm the third owner. It was originally leased for three years, CPO'ed the first time for the second owner, than sold to me which my dealer felt was clean enough to CPO a second time. Interesting thing is I believe my CPO coverage is actually more comprehensive because the current CPO warranty is closer to a new vehicle warranty.

I was trying to figure out how much one dealer could have made off the same car. It was lightly optioned so assume an MSRP of $80k max. I found some old residual data for a 2006 base 911, 56%. So it's worth $45k at lease end in. It's sold to the second owner in 2009 and likely sold at a good price because of the economy. Assume he gets it for $45-50k in 2009. At the end of 2011, he trades it in I'm guessing for about $30-32k. Dealer than lists it for $37.7k as a CPO vehicle.
