Went to the 991 launch....(pics enclosed)
I wasn't sure that I would like the car; however, after seeing it I think it's growing on me!

I was at the local dealer (Desert European) & saw the 2 cars they were prepping for their unveiling party today. The car is beautiful. Can't wait to drive one. Now the decision is to get a new 997.2 that they're dealing on or bite the bullet & get a 991.....decisions....decisions....nice to be in a position to have these "huge" problems!

I saw the 991 at Rennsport in October and actually prefer the styling of the 997. I'm sure the 991 will be a hit and will outperform the 997 but for me the increased prowess and performance are barely attainable in North America, at least legally. If I lived in Germany, then I would be a taker. I own a 2007 C4S and actually miss the handling and driving fun of my old 2001 Boxster S on the two lane twisty back roads here in Oregon. So my next car will most likely be a 981 Boxster S with all the goodies and with a nearly $40K savings over a 991 S................

It is a fine looking auto but I'm one of those guys who is really happy with what he has.
We have a couple of 991s at the local dealership. I haven't even bothered to take a test drive, because I'm not really in the market for another 911.

Dan,
Were you able to notice any differences in the quality of the paint between the 991 and the 997? I ask because the 991 was painted in the new paint facility.

I'm not a paint expert; the paint looked every bit as nice as my 997.1.
The one thing I don't like is the script on the rear. The "911 Carrera S" seems redundant.
It reminds me of the way my F-250 SD is labelled. My kids laugh at the "Super Duty" branding all over the truck.

I went to the local dealer's 991 launch party last night. The thing that struck me first was that the car looks big, especially in length. Of course, it could be a bit deceiving because it was inside a fairly confined showroom. The 20" wheels also stood out as looking big, and could have been contributing to the appearance of overall size.
For this occasion the dealer (Porsche of Nashua NH) also had some very nice examples of earlier generation 911's (on loan from private owners) on display, going back to the 1960's. What is striking is how small the early 911's were when you see them almost side by side with the new one.
The front and rear end of the 991 were also clearly different than the 997 but the overall shape change of the car is very much evolutionary, not revolutionary. From a distance you could easily confuse it for a 997. The more steeply raked windshield creates more space inside from the dashboard to the lower edge of the windshield.
Overall the materials used in the interior look more luxurious or of higher quality than in the 997. In areas where the 997 used relatively cheap plastic, like under the hood, the 991 is better finished. There is also noticeably more cargo space under the hood. Even details like the oil filler cap look more upscale.
At some point, I'd like to test drive the 991, but that will have to wait until another time.

Checked out the new 991 yesterday. The interior is stunning. What was even more stunning was the $126K price tag for a loaded Carrera S.
Frunk space is signicantly larger than the 997. Rear end looking very busy with Porsche and Carrera scripts. While the 20's looked great as did the front head/fog lights, I did not have an emotion connection to the new body style.
Count me as one of those happy with what he has and not looking to do a 991 upgrade.

Our test drive car on Friday had 20" winter rubber on winter rims and it rode very well...

Yeah, our two launch cars were $127k and $119k. Typical options were $5k for Burmeister, $3700 for full leather, $3k for sport exhaust, $1100 for Sirius and HD radio, $1500 for a sunroof... Porsche always made big profits on options and the 991 continues that trend.
