Seen in paddock at Daytona

I, too, saw this car and, trust me, it did not have one ounce of "cheap." It was stunningly gorgeous. The driver had some pull at the track. He seemed to be well-known to all. They allowed him to park directly adjacent to the pit gate. He was a (semi) handsome man, deep tan, maybe 5'6", wearing an imported Italian business suit. VERY stylish. I saw him in a several conversations with any number of top drivers. My guess is he is (1) with the Porsche factory or (2) a driver agent. He was there all weekend. Not your typical garage *****, and the car was most definitely not your typical Porsche.

I have to say, you guys have a pretty good eye. I too initially thought it was a 997 (front and tail-lights, for starters…). I had to go back and relook the pics. Whattayaknow, the curves and lines are a dead giveaway that this is a 996. I am ashamed for not having caught that. Nonetheless, while I think the front mod is superb, the rest of the car is—as already stated—too pimp. Especially those wheels.
But this thing brings up an interesting topic: I wasn’t aware of 996 mods that make an otherwise hideous front end look so 997ish, which, by the way, I think is simply gorgeous. However, I still prefer the late models 996 4S rear, with the solid deflector going across, which vaguely reminds me of the 993, over the 997. Somehow if I could get a 996 rear and a 997 front end, I would have the perfect 911. Instead, they give us the 991 rear end—uuughhhhhh!

Based on what I saw yesterday on the Porsche website, this car might have been the design prototype for the new Boxster and the new Cayman...

Well the mystery car definitely wasn't a Cayman or Boxster, but the body kit definitely looked like the new Boxster. And since I would expect the new Cayman to have all of the same front/side/rear bodywork as the Boxster, then I expect the new Cayman to look very similar to our mystery car. We'll know very shortly since the new Cayman should be introduced very soon (or not at all - based on the poor sales for the Cayman).
