Carmax offered $36K for my 2005 C2S with 51K miles. They will slap on a warranty and list it around $44K and be happy to sell it at $42K - I'm guessing. If I were going to sell it I would ask $39-$40K and it would surely sell. It is a launch edition with PCCBs. I bought it a year and a half ago from a private party in S. Cal for $44.5K. I think the same car on a Porsche dealer lot would sell in the mid to high 40s because they can get that much for them when you factor 'dealer' advantage and financing options. I would probably sell to Carmax or an Indy to avoid a private party transaction and the potential issues. But, your friend can give you a very conservative bill of sale if you want t go that way. Good luck!

An '06 will certainly have less wear and tear all things bent equal and have all the improvements respective of the second year build. But I wouldn't automatically exclude an '05 Search around on this forum and you'll understand. Good luck.

It looks like the 05's have retained more value then I previously anticipated. I bought my CPO 05 C2 sight unseen from a Houston Porsche dealer in October 2009 for $39.5K. Your local market should have some of the best Porsche pricing around just due to supply I would think. I think the 05 vs 06 issue is not just a matter of price but also how you feel about the IMS risk. For a couple grand extra the 06 might seem like a no-brainer but you cannot easily (meaning as economically) deal with an IMS retrofit. My 05 was relatively trouble free until the engine grenaded three weeks after the CPO expired. Porsche NA came through and provided me with a crate motor but you likely can't count on that on a five or six year old private sale car out of warranty if it happens, as unlikely as it may be.

I think upper end $30's for the car you describe is right, and do the retrofit, and clutch while you are in there, right away.

In late summer (this year), I paid $40,725 for my '05 C2S with 38K miles on it. Not a CPO car, since I picked it up as a trade-in from a Merc Benz dealer....so I accepted some risk along with the decent price.

Carlo, make sure you get a DME scan first and review the range 1-6 over-revs, before you even do a PPI (also a must). Assuming a 6-speed manny tranny.

Sure - when the car's seen a number of track days with the resultant chipping on the hood and windshield, as well as wear on the motor, suspension, etc., it was an absolute steal for the buyer. Thankfully, I sold my car to a buddy that I go racing with who was fully apprised of the car's history and we reached a fair deal for both parties.

How foolish to opine on the merits of a deal without information on the condition of the car.
