What size socket do I need to remove the top from the oil filter cannister on a 997.2? I haven't been able to find that info anywhere.
Thanks!

Well, as a ballpark starting point, the MANN LS7 filter canister removal tool requires a 1 1/16" socket.
It would not surprise me at all if those detail oriented German engineers that designed your 997.2 used the same size socket on the new canister as that once used on the MANN canister removal tool.

This is just like the one I use at work. 74.5mm is the size.

I got mine through the Snap-On guy, but you can get them from Sears. Here's the link to the page.
Edit: Oops, 997.2 requires a 27mm socket for the cap to the filter housing. My bad, it's been a loooong day...

Mike,
I think you are right. I saw SW 36 stamped on the top but the "SW" part didn't ring a bell, so I wasn't sure.
Thanks for the info.

Pfft. I curse almost every time I have to deal with this idiotic imperial system that makes basic calculations so damn difficult to do. In everyday life, I'm finding stuff like dry pasta measured in ounces, and cooked pasta measured in cups.
