Tires-Replace at Wear Bars?

I'm curious how far you guys push your tires past the wear bars? I know they won't pass state inspection if they are at the wear bars but it seems like you could 1-2k miles past once it hits the wear bars?

Going to or near the wear bars may work on the front tires but probably not on the rear tires. With the factory camber set at -1.5 on the rear, the inside of the rears could be worn past the wear bars, while the outside of the tire still has a decent amount or tread remaining. Look closely at the INSIDE of the rear tires to see how much tread is remaining on the tires. A few guys here reported that they were driving on the cords on their rear tires and didn't realize it.
Philosophically, is it really worth risking your life or your car to try to squeeze the last mm of tread out of your tires?

I have seen many a tire make it well passed the wear bars....
here is the trouble:
increased noise (yea who cares)
reduced traction (with winter coming this is a very real issue)
increased chance of a flat
cording - requiring immediate change - this often happens without noticing because you actually have to about get on your knees to see the inner edge..
if you are willing to check them daily...and carefully - drive a little more cautious - I see no reasone not to get your money out of them....
but then I ask myself WTF? why would you run around on crappy tires on what is undoubtedly ones of the worlds best sports cars??? - get a new set and see if you can make the new ones last 1/2 as long as the old ones did![rockon](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/rockon.gif)
(working on my car this week I said....WOOO BABY!!! my tires might not make the winter, I put them on February of this year and WAY under 10k miles ago!!)

I would be amazed if you could even GET to the bars. Check the inside portion of the tread. If you're not into a cord or two by now you are driving the car correctly! Good even wear by performance driving. Most of these things are trashed by the negative camber and not driving them aggressively enough to keep the wear even across the tread.

Wet traction is the issue. Tire Rack has an interesting video showing their test of tread depth and wet stopping distance. Kind of scary knowing someone behind you has crappy worn out tires on their car and is drinking a latte and texting.

I admit that I've been guilty of taking my rear tires to the brink (Bridgestone's) and I'll never do it again. The difference in the way the car feels and handles with tires and the edge versus new tires is amazing. OP, the question you may want to ask yourself is: You spend a boat load of money on a car who's claim to fame is superior handling, do I want to be eke out another 32nd of an inch or do I want to buy new tires on and have a better handling car? Either way, it's your car and your decision.
