wow not many sports cars on that list
I would agree that anything made has flaws to be smoothed out in its first year of production. This goes further than cars, anything is like that.. look at the Ipad for example, the second version was much more refined

Isn't that the same magazine that rated the Lexus LS the highest ever, with 99 out of 100 total points and listed its major weakness as "lack of agility"?
Consumer Reports hasn't got a clue on anything automotive.
Even their recommended coffees suck!!

However, the reliability survey is just data gathered based on OWNER'S FEEDBACK SURVEY! So, it is the owners who reported problems with the car and NOT Consumer Reports.. they simply tallied the results and provided this list and it is definitely un-biased and accurate as anything else I've seen!

Like I said... who in his right mind considers CR's opinions?

I actually agree that their Auto Reviews are not that great, SPECIALLY for car enthusiasts.

Also, for those who have the CR online subscription, the updated reliability data can be found there as of yesterday.
Don't even bother to look at the Audi Q5 reliability data unless you have a strong heart!!

That said, its not a quality survey, but an initial quality survey. As in, "did anything that came with the car, break during the first week of ownership" or some such thing.
I never got surveyed.
Last time JD Power surveyed me, it was weeks after buying a new VW Golf in 1994. I'd not had the car long enough to really know much about the guts of the car (re initial quality) other than they worked out of the box. I'd not have taken possession of it if anything didn't work, so the whole idea of that super-early survey seemed stupid.
Also, it doesn't survey about the quality of the car, just did any of the stuff it came with break. So if it was fitted with a crap quality trim package... that held together, its perfect. If it had a higher quality trim and a small bit had to be serviced, its a disaster.
I don't put much value in these rankings.

According to them 1.3 Million owner of NEW cars. As someone else pointed, this is reliability of NEW CARS and if anything breaks, doesn't work while car is pretty much brand new. Hence, cars with newer/unproven models suffer, i.e. Cayenne in this case.

Correct, as you can see from the full chart, the niche brands like Ferrari, Aston Martin, Maeserati are missing due to small sample size.
