How did you become a Porsche person?

The Porsche was on a laundry list of cars I wanted to own in my life.
My first true "muscle car was in college / 1st job out" 2004 Pontiac GTO.
Once I started my career at the age of 28 I bought my first "exotic car" ( the one i always wanted from when I was a kid. )
A lotus exige S260 Sport
I than had a corvette for a few months - DD
At the age of 29 I met my lovely wife. I sold the Exige December of 2013 and the Pontiac GTO. The GTO went to the house fund.
At the age of 31 June 2014 I picked up my first Porsche - 2010 911 4s PDK- sport chrono plus-
The crazy thing is I'm so happy with the 911, it's done everything I want.
I'm a car enthusiast who works in the industry and enjoys something engineered well.
Who knows what the future will be? but,
I can say I do see another 911 or two in my life.

I fell in love with Porsche because of my Dad. When he met my Mom in the 50's he had a Triumph TR3 and they were very active in a sports car club in Southern California. He always wanted a 356 Speedster because they were always edging him out at the Autocross, slaloms, and jimcanas. However, they got married and started a family so the TR3 went away and he never could afford a sports car again. I began studying all things Porsche. In 1986 I had the famous Porsche poster of a black 911 cresting a hill ang getting airborn. 10 years later I bought my first 911, the 1989 25th Anniversary model described in my signature. I sold it in 1999 and regretted it ever since. I've had other sports cars, faster, louder, more/less creature comforts, but there truly is NO substitute.

I always loved "American Muscle" when I was young and never thought I would be able to afford a Porsche. I first fell in love with the Porsche "Slant-Nose 911" but still never thought i would own one.
Hard work and dreams come true. I owned a 2003 996 while living in Germany....lots of mileage on the Autobahn...sold it before returning to the states and then purchased a 2008 997.1 in 2009 after moving to Canada...had it ever since.

Somehow, couple of months ago i got the bug to see if they are out there. Turns out they are very rare and almost impossible to find. But i saw one for sale on ebay by chance, it was in bad shape and didn't work and the seller took down the post.
It took me couple of weeks of research but i finally found out that that particular model, looks and that is capable of full range of motion ( front/back/left/right) was made only in 1987. It actually had a slightly different name than what was actually on the package as it came from Japan. That's why it was a bit hard to look for.
After another couple of weeks of searching (still hard to find even if you know what to look for) i found one that was still in the original box with all of the paperwork and even original price sticker. Placed a bid and got it!!!
So now on the shelf i have the original i got back in 89 and another one in the original box
the only way anyone gets to play with them if if they give me keys to a real one

As a kid grew up with my dad having a 86 targa . During mid 90s Frankenstein cars were hot and he ended up converting it with a 993 soft top and painting it speed yellow. At 16 was blessed to have the worlds crappiest 944 in the world as my first car . Then upgraded to a 968 when I was 18 . Went through a few more sports cars other makes and after many years porsche less .. Father sells car and then passes away... Some time passes and I was back in the market however looking for a Prius at the time my wife goes ... Why not a 911 like dad? Then fate would bring me to an perfect matched 997 in speed yellow.
Side note always lusted after 993s ala bad boys movie or Seinfeld riviera/Mexico blue. Prices are absolutely absurd but hopefully I'll find a sorted out drivers car down the line.
And extra side note if anyone knows of a yellow 86 911 with matching turbo twist wheels and black and yellow interior that previously lived its life as a bronze targa anywhere around the Los Angeles area let me know I would love to try and locate it and make an offer

Well, I'm not a Porsche person. I don't kneel at the alter of Stuttgart.
I might be an enthusiast who'd dabble in a Porsche club, but I am to a point where I am done feeling an allegiance to any company or product.
If I am a Porsche person by default (owns a Porsche, is a Rennlister, etc), then it's because I appreciate the balance of the 997 as modern yet analogue enough to enjoy a visceral experience when I drive it (cheesy -- right?).
I enjoy the dedication the community brings (reading some of that engine failure thread on the 996.... just wow. You go guys).
Most of the Porsche people I talk to know less than me about these cars, and all I know is just enough.
So... what makes someone a Porsche person? Just owning one?
All good.

I drove a C5 Z06 vette for 5 years and got tired of it as it didnt do anything for me although it was a faster and less maintenance car. The vette felt very banal. Being an engineer, i have always appreciated solid engineering and see it through and through in the 911. I was also looking for the complete package in terms of handling, power, braking and comfort/features, looks. I used to always envy and admire the people that drove these cars as they looked so graceful in motion, even now i tend to speed up to catch another 911 when i see one ahead of me. Had a goal that by the time i was 40, i could get a 911 and just squeezed it in. I lucked out as prices were really good when people were offloading these cars in 2010, and ended up selling the vette and buying a used 07 4S. When i went to buy my current 911, i actually was so overwhelmed that i was about to buy a 911, that i walked away from the deal to get a sanity check and came back a week later after thinking it all through... Im happy to own own, but it seems like there is more responsibility in owning one from all sorts of perspectives. Cant stand the jealousy and ill feelings people have towards you when you own one.

I went from Mercedes to Porsche but do not consider my self a "die hard fan" of a Porsche. I absolutely love it, however.
I had 5 Mercedes in 12 years. I know that i will end up getting another Mercedes. I like them allot but don't know if i can call my self "die hard fan" because i would like to have a couple others as well.
I will try and keep the Porsche if i can and add an older G class.
I also absolutely love Ferraris and hope to have a 360 one day.
My wife and I both are crazy about Astons, so hopefully one day that will be in our garage as well.
So i'm going to go and rob a Casino, and be right back

I always was a certified Ferrari nut, but the closer I get to be able to afford (a used) one, the less I want to.
Nonetheless, for F1, I say, "Forza Ferrari".
I do love my car though. I envision myself in something Sharkafied someday. That I can see myself working towards. I love the idea of taking these cars to new heights.

I grew up, I guess. I had a loud, fast MINI Cooper S before my 911, and at one point, I daily drove my loud, fast '92 Talon TSi AWD track car.
I originally wanted a 987.2 Cayman S, but found my 997.1 with an FSI 3.8 for cheaper.
I wanted something nice for my post-law school/passing the bar exam reward. Fiancee doesn't like loud cars, or floaty luxo-barges. 911 ticked all the boxes. Fast, light, comfortable, but not too disconnected. A real Sports-GT car with racing pedigree.
It's strange, because I was more a Ferrari fan than Porsche guy growing up. Then I got my first car and was all about the Japanese tuner scene (I still am). Wasn't until I bought my MINI that I got into European cars, even though my father is a dyed-in-the-wool BMW guy.

I not a Porsche person.
I like cars. I buy them generally used.
Had a pile of trucks and Japanese cars.
First Porsche was in 1990. A used 944 Turbo. Gently messaged it every year. Shocks, bigger brakes, intake, exhaust. I had it for 15 years. Got married, had a kid or two. It was not practical enough.
Bought an o5 STi. Still the fantastic flat four. Then an o8 STi. Then had the opportunity to buy my 997. Wow, great car. Two kids fit in the back. Good size frunk. A few long family road trips. Alas, it had to go for a business venture. Needed the dough. Back in a 15 STi. Another fantastic boxer, but not the displacement of the 3.8 . I have kept the very obnoxious throttle blipping habit from the 997. But its not the same. I'll be back. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully its not a train.

Back in the 80's when I was a kid my parents bought us a 928 remote control car. It was so futuristic back then. Next thing you know The movie Risky business features one. The neighbor across the street buys his 18 year old son a 944 that I got to ride in at the age of 9. They were amazing looking cars that always caught my eye as a kid.
Fast forward to 2006, I get a call from my best friend who says " yeah man, Im at your brothers house and he has a 911 with this crazy wing on it chilling in the garage " . Im living in Phoenix at the time and im like " what kind of brothers buys a 911 and hides it from his Car Junkie brother lol ". I call him and he's like " oh yeah this is actually my second one ". The bastard bought a Carrera and then dumped it weeks later for a Carrera S with the Cup kit!.
So I fly into Maryland to see the family , the plane lands and I'm driving that car like 30 min later ha ha.
He gave me the keys to drive it while he was at work for the week. I immediately took it to some twisty country roads in Bowie Maryland. At that time I was TURNED INTO A PORSCHE JUNKIE ! Literal on the first turn I took, I was blown away. I was getting ready to make the normal adjustments you make but before I knew it the chassis took the turn like it was alive!
I do have to say I enjoyed the Hunt of finding my 997s. I started off looking at the Cayman S, 3.2, SC's, 993's, 996's. The 997s was the only thing that made sense price and performance wise. I'm happy with my choice.
