TPS Inactive

I was driving over some bumpy roads in downtown Chicago about a month ago and suddenly my dash said TPS Inactive but did not have "system learning" after it. After a few days its started saying the system learning part. Now it has been about 3 weeks and it still hasn't "learned" the tire pressures. Anyway to fix this or am I just going to have to the dealer? It seems like I have some tire pressure issues every month, is this normal for the 997.1? The weather does fluctuate a lot here in Chicago so I was wondering if that was the case?

See if you can re-set it in the menu. This happened to me during a serious elevation change. It could also be that your sensors' batteries inside the wheels are dying. They last about 5 years.

Each wheel has a sensor/tranmitter (attached to the valve stem inside the tire) so the tires need to be removed and a new transmitter installed, then tires remounted - batteries are not a replaceable item.

Only way to tell the remaining life of the individual TPMS batteries is to have the car hooked up to the PWIS system at the dealer. My RF sensor, which showed about 20% of life remaining three months ago, just crapped out. Got a "TPC Inactive" message along with orange and red idiot lights.

One bad TPMS battery/sensor will make the whole TPC system inactive. I assume you've tried resetting the system multiple times and you are still getting the tpc inactive message.
Your best option at this point is to go to the dealer and have them diagnose the problem by hooking the car up to the PWIS. The problem will either be a bad sensor(s), a bad TPC control module, or both.
My P-Car dealer wanted approximately $240 per wheel (!) to change out the tpms sensor. The part can be obtained from tirerack or suncoast for between $80-$100 with labor costs at an indy approximately $25 per wheel.
I am once again dealing with this PITA issue myself...I've already had the TPC control module replaced and am about to get all four sensors changed out.

I got the same issue. Is TPMS covered under CPO warranty?

Mine are dead as well. I've decided to wait until I need new tires to deal with it. The system doesn't work that great anyway.

Islandtrader,
I too live in Chicago and my TPS inactive light came yesterday morning while I was driving down Sheridan Rd. After I turned off the car and then restarted it, TPS light was off and system was on. My guess is you and I probably have the same problem and the batteries are low. I just haven't bitten the bullet yet and taken it up to The Exchange to have them replaced. I wish I could find a local independent shop who I could trust to fix it.

Well I drove on the highway and it went away, though it told me to put in 5 psi in the back tires. It seems like I am always adding air throughout the year to the tires, is this normal?
