Scissor-type car lifts
All you who have these, please advise.
Thinking about getting a lift to put on/off track tires, change brake pads, bleed brake lines, etc. Would be in garage. Want to leave it in place, and just park over it. Only considering scissor lifts, not post lifts.
1-- Do you have to get a Bend-Pak lift to get a good one? I'm not made of money, and I want to get the cheapest, good, safe lift. In other words, anybody happy with their nonBend-Pak lift?
2-- Is daily parking over it in the garage a problem or a hassle?
3-- Are special arms required to fit the width of a 997 C2S?
4--Are they as easy to use as they look?
5--Any other pros/cons you can add?
Thanks.

Im in a similar situation as yourself. If your looking for a low cost unit, harbor freight makes a decent scissor lift which can be had for 800 around xmas time. I know many of this forum would gawk at this unit but if you google it on the net, youll see quite a many have said good things about it and it works. If you have the money, obviously a bend pak is the better choice..
Any scissor jack will present clearance issues, so youll have to install a 2x10x16 so you can drive up and over it. Ive seen a few people with the planks in their garage and guys just driving up and over it to park their car with the jack underneath..

Send a message to Ed Hughes. He owns a 911 and a 993. Does a tremendous amount of his own work with his scissor lift

I have had a snap-on model for several years and find it very useful and sturdy. Buying a cheap one only to see my car fall off and be damaged is not my idea of sound economics

Nussbaum
Not your cheapest option, but a quality lift from Germany.
Nussbaum Sprinter.

1. Happy with non-Bend Pak. Very happy in fact. So are the nighbours.
2. Daily parking absolutely no hassle, overall height 100mm, ~4".
3. Four hockey pucks courtesy of my neighbour for perfect lift.
4. Looks great and child easy to use.
5. More expensive than other lifts but no modifications required to your garage floor, portable, no extra ramps, quality construction ,quiet, 2500 kg capacity, etc.
Oh, one more: requires 240V wiring. Two phase 120V + 120V + gorund.
Not one regret so far. There was a lenghty thread in 996 forum. Search for Nussbaum, you'll find it with pics and all sorts of comments.
Cheers,

I picked up a used one recently, it's a Ravaglioli made in Italy. Just loving it! I used to procrastinate over doing small jobs before, usually because it took longer to lift the car than to actually do the job... Now I look for any excuse to get the car up in the air! The 993 uses about 30% of the maximum width adjustment, a 997 won't need more than 60% of maximum adjustment.
