Default From the drivers seat, can you see the front fender wings on a 997?

I am not sure if I am describing this right but, I am talking about the two fenders that house the headlights?

I am 6'2" and I was wondering if it would be easy for someone my height to see those wings while driving.

I am intrested in picking up a 997 or 991 C2S in a few years and would like to know if these models offer those driver sightlines...(I realize no one has driven the 991 yet, which is why I want the opinions of 997 drivers, because that is as close as I'm gonna get)

I have driven both a Porsche 964 and a 1991 Acura NSX before and one of the things I loved most about both of them is how I could see the fender wings on both cars.

I like it because it helps know where the front corners of the car so I can precicely place it during aggressive driving through turns.

In fact, I believe one of the design goals of the McLaren MP4-12C was to also have these fender wings visible from the drivers seat so he/she would know where exactly the middle of the tires were on the road!

Just so you know, this will not be a determining factor whether or not I get a 911....I would just like to know if I will a similar comforting feeling as I did in the 964 those years ago

I'm 5'9", for me it depends on my seating position. I like to sit low to the ground, from that position I can't see the wings. But if I raise the seat up, I can. Given your height, I would guess you should be able to see the wings. To see for yourself, the easiest thing to do is to go to a dealer and sit in a 911.

I'm 6'1" and sit in the lowest position. My seating position is track oriented, so I sit very close and upright. I can see the fender tops easily, and can do so in any reasonable seating position.

I am 5'11" and sit relatively upright. I can easily see the fender tops.

Compared to the 964 or 993 series........just barely. Over the last few generations the dash has been raised but more to your point the front hood has been raised significantly to meet pedestrian impact safety standards. On my 2012 GTS there is just a bit of the top curve of the front fenders that are visible.

6'1" and sitting in a low sporty(upright with arms slightly bent at 10&2 on the wheel) position. I easily see the pontoons. I also can see the hood to the point where it rolls away if i lean about 2-3" forward.

A good while ago, I read somewhere that proper seat adjustment in a 997 included having the seat at a height where you could see the front pontoons while sitting relaxed in the seat. So yeah, you can see them.

+1

I'm 5'6" and like to sit low in the car, and I can still see the tops of the fenders.

I am almost that tall and I can see them-- and I can see the "hip" of the rear fender and the side of the rear wing in the side mirror. These views put a smile on my face every time I drive.

While they are visible, the are not as pronounced as on previous generations. On my 964, the front hood sloped sharply downward to such a degree that I could see a point on ground very close to the front of the car. Although I can "see" the tops of the fenders, they are only a couple of inches above the surface of the hood.

I'm 5'6" and sit in a low position, but not all the way to the floor.

Not only can you see the fenders, if you lean toward the windshield you can see the edge of the right headlight lens.

Interesting question because I always loved the sight of those two fenders in older 911s (964s primarily). I never owned one of those but when I got my 911, I was hoping for the same experience. At 6'6" I can only see the left one in a normal position. If I lean forward a bit, I can see the right one too. But I wish I could see both. Not that big of a deal but I can see why you are asking.

I think at the end of the day, they are harder to see than older 911s but it depends on a variety of factors (height and seat position). Best bet would be to go for a test drive (or at least a test sit).
