Default Daytime Running Lights

'05 S with Sport Chrono Plus
DRLs checked via MAIN | SET | INDIVID. MEMORY

With Durametric I have verified that:
Actual lightbulbs work (left and right activation of fog/drl setting)

I can toggle the PCM and show the DRLs ACTIVE/INACTIVE in PCM

No fault codes under ELECTRICAL or FRONT menus

But still they do not come on Anyone have any ideas?

I live in Seattle and we are already experiencing dark, rainy days and DRLs are almost a must but no need for HIDs.

So you have the PCM settings set to use the DRL's, and when you start the car, with the headlights off, the DRLs are staying dark?

IE individual memory is checked to activate the DRLs
The headlights are turned OFF
The car is running (or at least ignition turned on)?

I've got a 2009 so I'm not certain the systems work the same way, but on my car the above settings have been what I had things set to since day one and the DRLs (LEDs in my case) come on when I turn on the ignition. When I switch on the headlights, the DRLs dim/turn off (as mine are LEDs).

In your case the DRLs are also the headlights, right?

Interesting question...
I have read that MY 2005 it is the low beam xenon headlights only but if I select to turn on the DRLs via Durametric for testing it turns on the fogs.

But correct no DRLs with switch in . or home, engine running, setting in PCM checked. (I have switched it several times on and off)

It it is the specific fog lights that are coming on with Durametric, then that prog. is not turning on the DRLs, since fog lights are not DRL lights (unless those cars run the fogs at a fraction of the power).

So I'm wondering if your durametric test is indeed not turning on what would be DRLs.
I'd make sure the manual to the car describes DRLs (ie that the car has DRLs as a feature) and if it indicates they should be coming on, then take it to the dealer and have them demonstrate how they should be working.

My experience with the 997.1 DRL's is that it is the headlights that are the DRL's and not the foglights. Also, the DRL headlights are full power unlike some cars that run DRL's (BMW?) at a reduced power. It looks like you're doing the settings in the PCM correctly. Without Sport Chrono, you wouldn't have the individual settings menu options in the PCM. But DRL's can be different too - on my 06 C4S, the DRL's were just the headlamps. On my 08 Turbo, the DRL's are every light on (except fog lights) front and back but no dash lights. I'd go back and check the PCM settings again and make sure the DRL box is checked. Do the other individual setting options in the PCM work? And are you using the correct key? You can have DRL's set for Key 1 and not for Key 2. You might also try resetting the individual setting back to factory and then starting over again. But this sounds like it might be a key issue. Let us know.

Although I would like to get this resolved it is not worth $95/hr to have dealer look at it.

See the original post...Fog lights/Day time running lights START STOP

Selecting START turns on fogs not low beams

Yes, other settings in PCM work.
Yes I tried FACTORY SETTING too.
Only have one key involved.

It should not cost you anything. The sales or service of a proper dealer should be able to show you for free how the DRLs on their product lines work without you having to check the car into service. Just drive up and ask (assuming you don't have to drive a long distance to get to one).

So that program is turning on the FOGs. It is not turning on the DRLs, regardless of what the durametric software may be claiming. And that may be mimicking what you are seeing when driving, that the DRLs are not coming on at all.

BTW, WHERE is the DRL setting in 997.1 PCM? I was never able to find it and I do have Sports Chrono.

One Word: Barrier

Sales said go to Service. Service wanted $95/hr to "look at it"

Yes, they sold the car-Yes, they have serviced it since new.

This is the dealer that tried to charge me $5.50/ea for screws for the wheel liners.

If you have Sport Chrono:
Car running, MAIN | SET | INDIVIDUAL MEMORY | LIGHTS

Thanks!

My DRL actually works by using the main headlights... I actually LIKE YOUR DRL! to make Fogs come on as DRL and not the main headlights...

So, HOW did you manage to do that?

His DRL's don't work - that's why he posted. He was able to cycle the fog light/daytime running light by using the Durametric....but that just tests the lights, it doesn't turn them on permanently.
