Default Winter Wheels/Tire thoughts

I'm leaning on getting new 18's sport edition cup 4 for my 09 Targa 4 instead of putting 19's snow tires on my Turbo wheels. Im only planning on using the Targa when there is no snow or ice on the road. Having said that one dealer has recommended Winter 240 Sottozero 235/40r18 and 265/40r18 and another dealer said go with 235/40r18 and 295/35r18 which is better/correct? I believe the wheels are 18x8 and 18x 10. On a side note, given how i plan on using the car in the winter, am i better just mounting 19's snow or all season tires on my 19' Turbos? Thank in advance...

Like you, I drive in winter only when there is no snow or ice on the roads. I run 19" Sottozero's on a dedicated set of winter wheels and they work great for that. The main concern is that you want the rubber to stay pliable, and not to turn into solid rock, like a summer tire will when it gets really cold. Winter tires, as opposed to all season tires, are best for this purpose. And if you run into an occasional bit of unexpected snow, you'll be fine. Go with whatever size is recommended in the owner's manual, either in 18" or 19".
