David - definitely go to the PDE (still called that?) at Barber... I did 5 years ago and it was a blast. I have spent considerable amount of time on the track in my GT3 and do push the limit. I find the 997 C2S to be much livelier and lighter than the C4S. It definitely has a lighter feel and can be tossed around a bit more... As some have pointed out - it is really about personal feel.

Additionally, I find 911s to be difficult to balance (especially on the track). It took me almost 20 track days to find the right balance of negative camber, toe in and corner balancing to get the proper turn-in that I like on the track. Street 911s also require proper alignment, and when out of alignment I find them to be twitchy... Granted, the 996/997.1/997.2s are getting better in terms of their neutral feel (and the 991 is supposed to be exquisite), but they still need some attention...

To the OP - drive both and then decide. Lots of great advice on this thread.
