Default "hissing" noise during engine braking?

Is this normal? If so, what is it?

When I'm in a tunnel or certain streets where the engine sounds bounce off the surroundings, I can hear a hissing or 'whooshing' noise coming from the engine when letting my foot off the gas and the engine is braking. I assume it's normal but don't really know what causes it.

TIA.

I think this is normal, mine does the same as well. I believe its due to the PCV/airbox design of the boxer engine, someone correct me if im wrong..

No. In my experience nothing should whoosh or hiss and I doubt it's engine noise you're hearing. Real tough to say what is going on tho. Maybe wind noise of which there is considerable or tire noise, likewise. Whirring is normal but you can't hear that while driving. If it is from the motor maybe you should have someone check intake and exhaust fittings but I don't really think thats a good answer. At this point some one has usually said "turn up the radio" or "drive faster" but I'm not that kinda guy
