Default battery out or trickle charger?

I don't get to drive the 911 much as I prefer to use the truck for work/family.

Since I bought it instead of leasing it, I'd like to keep it for 20 + years and already had it for about 4. I'm on my 3rd battery (first was Porsche OEM, subsequent has been Optima), have kept it plugged into the trickle charger for about 5 months out of the year due to cold weather/snow. Also keep it plugged in if I am not going to drive it for more than a few days during the spring/summer/fall months. So far driven about 600 miles this year.

My question is should I keep it plugged in from November to March every year or should I just take out the battery and re-install every season.

In addition, the car is washed/waxed, topped off with gas and resting on Tire Cradles.

Don't forget a fuel stabilizer too. 600 miles a year? Why not just buy a big poster and hang it in the garage - you'd get as much satisfaction.

Or, in addition to a big Poster, just find an local "Rent an Exotic For The Weekend Company". Sorry, to the OP but 600 mi. per yer is dangerously close to the "More money than sense category".

I' have had my C2S for two weeks and have driven it 1,200 miles during that time. The mileage to the office is 16 miles round trip, which accounts for only 160 of those 1,200 miles.

I would just keep it plugged into a float charger. I use the CTEK 3300.

Trickle charger. I use the Battery Tender Jr, but as the other members stated, you HAVE to drive it more often to keep those seals lubed, ect or the motor will just break down . . .

You are all correct, I should be driving it more.

I bought my 2007 997 GT3 new from the dealer and drove it about 5K the first season and about 4K/year for the next 2 seasons. It had about 14K miles prior to this year.

I go through various phases in my interests and have no doubt that I will drive more in the future.

The reason I'm on my 2nd Optima battery is that my first CTEK 3300 (the Porsche branded version) died without me knowing. One day I was unplugging it to drive the car and it felt very very HOT, (not just the usual warm around the case). The battery was dead and it was only about a year old.

Has this happened to anyone before? If so, would the trickle charger being so hot be a fire hazard.
