Default outside air temperature sensor, where is it?

Just picked up my car from the shop after having a new front bumper put on. My outside temperature gauge on the dash is now non functional. I believe the location is in the right front air duct. I have an empty round hole there.

thanks

Yep they did not re-install the temp sensor...you are correct it's in the passenger side front air dect area.

you may be able to see it shoved up under the grill or parts and may be able to fish it out

Just to finish this thread,

I went down to Oklahoma Foreign (about 40 min from me) and looked at the front end of many a cracked up 996. I pulled an air temp sensor from one of the cars in case mine was missing. It was. FYI part number 996 641 142 00.

Put the car up on ramps.

Went fishing for the wiring harness. The harness has 3 connections, two I believe go to the horns and the third to the air temp sensor. Bottom line is success.

glad you solved it. once while on the track, that little guy decided to duck back into my bumper (came loose from the vibrations i guess). the tip off was that i got to 125 degrees...in september. evidently it's much hotter inside the bumper than outside.

Hmmm, maybe I will put that sensor in a radiator hose to check the "real" temperature of the coolant and compare it to the dash gauge

Found this thread via search...

I washed the car yesterday, and noticed today that the outside temp reading was all over place while driving - darting from 100 to 120 degrees with an outside temp closer to 95. Sure enough, I had pushed the sensor back "into" the bumper and was able to find it with a small flashlight and my hand (tight fit) through the square opening under the bumper. It appears to push back into place from the inside. Is that correct?

I took 3 pics to show how it looks now, and could use some validation... Thanks guys!

My GT3 was reading 120 degrees today... I'm guessing the sensor is loose or needs to be replaced.

Mine has gone missing as well, but it's probably pushed in like SpiifyJ's. I get a fairly normal team reading on startup, and then it creeps up after that. I'll see high 90s when it's only in the low 70s here.

I was at the track today and took notice of someone else's and it's just like in the pics above. And my car looks just like the other pics here with an empty hole!

Seems like I need to go on a fishing expedition!
