991 can wait. GTS with SPASM tomorrow. Couple of Qs
Hi
I've agreed in principle to buy a new red GTS with SPASM tomorrow. I've been through a search and it looks like plenty of you guys with SPASM consider the ride in Normal perfectly acceptable. A couple of questions nevertheless:
1. Having selected the Sport button to change the throttle map, gear ratios and suspension tune, can you deselect the Sport PASM like you can on my C2S to soften the ride again?
2. In my searches I've seen some figures which show the front spring rates as PASM 33, SPASM 36, the rears as PASM 56 SPASM prog 65/95. Surely the PASM figures on the rear should also show two values? Anyone got any idea what the upper limit is for PASM? Reason I'm asking is to get an idea how soft the Normal setting of SPASM is vs the Sport setting of PASM. Somewhere in between will do nicely but all the way would be too far for me.
3. In the absence of hard numbers, would any of you SPASM drivers who are familiar with PASM care to guesstimate? Let's call PASM Normal 4 and Sport 7 out of 10, where would SPASM Normal and Sport come on the scale?
Thanks for your help guys.

1- yes you can have the sport setting without the stiffer shock setting
2- spasm is only slightly stiffer than pasm..not a huge difference
3- spasm would be 5 normal and 8 sport.
I've had 2 997's with regular pasm and a 09 with spasm and now a gts with spasm. I'd take spasm all day long. If you are looking for a cushy comfort car then the Porsche Carrera/GTS is not for you. A Porsche Panamera or any BMW, Audi, Benz or Lexus would fit the comfort issue a lot better.

Cheers Mike,
I have a 997.2 C2S right now so it's a good reference point for the new purchase. I'm not expecting a Lexus!!
Only slightly stiffer would be ideal, particularly if SPASM Normal is nearer to PASM Normal than it is to PASM Sport.

Totally agree - i have SPASM and would get it again. As I fire her up, I hit sport and then put SPASM back to normal. I like the ride height lowered by 20mm. SPASM normal is fine. If the roads are smoother and I want to be a bit more aggressive, I'll slap it in to sport.

I have SPASM on my 2012 GTS. I was concerned initially that it might be too stiff for a dally driver, and possibly too low, but I love it. Not too harsh at all, and no scraping the front.

Guys you are making me a lot happier. I have an option as well on a 6 month old car with PASM and 2500 miles on the clock for $1000 MORE than the brand new unregistered one with SPASM.

Is the steering feel as good as I've heard compared to the gen 2 C2S which is a little disappointing? I'd hate to find that had been compromised by the sports suspension.
Yours looks good in white btw. Going for red myself.

Steering feel on my GTS is good. Can't compare it to a gen 2 C2S because I went from a gen 1 C2S to the 2012 GTS.

Got it on my new GTS and love it. Bet you will too. Not at all uncomfortable.

I came out of a 2009 C4S with SPASM. I can tell you that my GTS (which has the sport suspension option) rides firmer then the C4S without the Sport button activated then the C4S without its sport suspension button activated apples to apples. Yet, while the GTS is firmer it's initial compliance on the dampers is way better. The GTS car, although firmer in normal non sport setting then my C4S handles bumps and road irregularities much better. The GTS rides more solid, firmer and planted yet at the same time not as harsh over road irregularities. I don't know how it manages to do that but it does.
In full sport mode with the sport suspension on it does get noticeably firmer still. Too firm for me for all the time. But when the road is twisty and smooth I like to get a little spirited and pretend I'm Hurley Haywood.
I love the GTS and think that with the growth and morphing of the 991 into more of a GT car the GTS will be a keeper as the best of the non track dedicated/focused normally aspirated 997s.
