careful not to overtighten. I have had that same gas cap for a little over a year now. When it is on tight enough, the word "petroleum" should be perfectly horizontal. The cap in the pic is overtightened about 1/8 of a turn. It is either missing the rubber o-ring, or it is torqued on too tight.

If you have a leach then you can drap/hang it over the hook on the fuel door. https://rennlist.com/forums/8898729-post53.html

Good call. I didn't like it slightly canted anyway. It looks perfectly level now and still plenty tight.

I was at the Porschefest meet at Larz Anderson in MA a couple of weeks ago and a couple of guys where showing their 997s.... with the filler cover open to show the gas cap. One it caught me as kind of funny seeing these cars with the filler doors open but I thought to each his own, then when I saw the spectators walking by the cars my thought changed to "holy cow, someone is going to brush against one of those filler doors and bend it back"....

All that said I bought a "used" one off this site over a year ago and have yet to put it on... it still sits in it's velvet pouch

Best,

Matt

I finally got around to doing the leash mod for my new CNC aluminum cap. I also followed the USMC-DS1 lead with 1/16th inch steel cable, but went a step farther with clear shrink wrap, wrapping both the 1/16" cable and the crimped hardware. No chaffing to any of the paint or new hardware!

I dont think that a leash is really neccessary, looks cleaner w/out it.

Yeah, and just as ridiculous is the cost of a Porsche license plate frame for $50-$60!!!

I can't believe this thread has lasted over a year on an aluminum gas cap!

No fitment issues or dash warning lights for emissions, etc.?
I just ordered one for my '07 RS in gunmetal.
