Porsche Brakes....unbelieveable!
Just a quick story and how good these brakes are.
I'm driving on Saturday morning and I'm in a hurry and there's this bike race going on and they are stopping all of the traffic to let these bikers through and the traffic is really backing up.
So much so that the cops are waving 2 or 3 cars through whenever there's a break in the bikers. I'm coming up to the intersection and I'm about the 3rd car to go and the cop starts waving his hand for people to go through. So I look at him and accelerate and then turn forward and the jackass in front of me is stopped dead....he decides he's going to stop in spite of the signal from the cop.
I see this and in a split second I hit the brakes and know I'm plowing into this guy and...............the car stopped! It took my breath away.....how could it stop sooooo fast? Just awesome....now if I can just get the 2 years back on my life that that close call cost me all would be good!!

Agreed Tom! Coming north through Everett traffic I signal and head into the empty lane next to me on my right just a another driver from the far right has the same idea. Whoa! Just about got side swiped but the trusty brakes and some steering saved me. Nasty stuff. Good to have te big brakes.

Yeah, I find myself looking 80% in the rearview and 20% forward when i'm braking hard. The same goes for motorcycling. When you're not in a big steel box it seems like drivers don't read you as a solid object.

With brakes this good one of the issues you have to face is the ability of others to stop around you. ALWAYS pick a large vehicle to be in the traffic ahead of you (they will pretty much wipe out everything in front of you) and then pick the smallest car and keep them behind you--they can probably stop much easier.

I agree the brakes on these cars are phenomonal however, as the Stoptech site says, brakes don't stop cars tires do. The rubber on these cars is fantastic as well. It's easy to have too much brake and not enough tire. Porsche has the combo set just right. :-)

Also thank your tires, it's a combo of brakes and tires that stopped your car!
The same combo also saved my life when AN IDIOT took an illegal left turn in front of me, I literally avoided a head-on collision with heavy braking, and quick change of direction to avoid hitting him.

High speed slowing is amazing too. I was, say, top of 4th empty highway and some idiot enters the highway and immediately crosses all 4 lanes so he can be in the far left lane (probably to mentally zone out). Top of 4th to 60mph can happen very fast, and under control. Wow.

Mid engine design may be faster overall on a circuit but in straight line braking Dr Porsche's rear engine design shows it's brilliance. Nice to have both axles working to avoid a collision.

is it possible to "turn off" the ABS?

It always worries me when I look in the rear view and see some jerk in a suv driving too close behind me. Not the being obnoxious and want me to get over situation , but the, they're just under estimating the distance that their car will be able to stop in situation. I don't think the average person has any idea how their car will behave in an emergency. I was always taught, 1 car length for every 10 MPH to allow for reaction and action.
