Well, the delaer gave me a decent, but not great, trade-in offer. Today I took the Honda to CarMax and they offered me $1,200 more than the dealer. So I am selling the car to CarMax tomorrow and will do a one way rental to drive up to Huntsville on Friday. After the rental car costs are figured into the mix, the net gain is about $1,100.

Thanks! I, too, think I got a good deal. Two year old (model years) car with 2,989 miles and 5 years of warranty. That works for me.

what about the tax savings? if you trade honda for say 10k then you only pay tax on the 78k-10k or pay tax on 68k. tax is usually 6.25% or thereabouts. if you sell it to car max then you have to pay tax on the whole 78k so you may be better off trading it for the lesser amount. don't know the number so i cannot say, but it is not always a net gain when you sell vs trade

here in SC you pay a max of 300.00 sales tax, then pay personal porperty tax on the vehicle every year at registation renewal. For my 997 C2S it was 2200.00 in 2010. On my new X5, it was 1400.00. And when I renew my tag in December, I am sure it will be at least 1200.00! It does go down evey year as long as you own the vehicle. We get kicked in the teeth every year at renewal time. My tag renewal is December, so I'll get the tax bill in December. Next vehicle, I am going to buy and request a new tag, but in July or something!!! I hate getting nailed with the tax, especially at Christmas!!! Hopefully, Tim prepaid his tag on the Honda, which would be MAJORLY lower than a 2010 C2S if he transferred the tag. If not, he'll get a friendly tax bill in 90 days. SC is sooooo freakin' backwards on car taxes.....I just wish we could pay it upfront!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jen,
Yes, I believe we paid the Honda taxes already. You have to pay the property tax before you can get the license plates. I kept my Honda plate and will transfer it to the Porsche. I have 45 days to "officially" transfer them with the DMV.

I kept going back and forth..... '08 Honda or '10 Porsche.... Honda... Porsche .... Honda... Porsche .... Honda... Porsche. In the end, the Porsche barely edged out the Honda!
Thanks, I am glad to be back in a P-car!
