No Spare tire?
I looked at my first 997, hey, there is no spare tire?
What do you do on a trip if you have a tire failure...yeah, use the repair kit, good luck with that, if the tire is wrecked.
Is there a doughnut available?

You're a little late to the 997 party.
This has been an issue for years. Try a search on Rennlist and you're going to find some other solutions.

Most sports cars these days lack a spare tire. The probability of a tire failure on the road is very small but it is surely annoying if it happens to you.

I'm no expert on this, but I believe that you can get a collapsible or air-filled "bicycle-style" Spare Tire Kit from eBay, for instance, for a decent price. MSRP should be $900-$1,000, but listings are available starting at $250 and up. The ones compatible with the Boxsters and 996s should also work for the 997(.1) though you may need to—if replacing the rear tire—move one of the front tires back and use the "orange spare" out for the front tire. You can probably fit the kit in the back seat space, laying down, or in the legroom rightside-up. Or, it can go in the frunk at an angle (for the air-filled) or at the very bottom horizontally if it's a collapsible (by the Bose amp, which should then be moved to the side).

I bought the orange 996 type spare, and a 944 jack off ebay, $200 for everything. But then moneys important to me. I cant afford the official 997 deal. PS it fits in the front

1 - Does it fit in the fronts in the the 997.2S?
2 - A spare only makes sense on a road-trip? Is the luggage space tradeoff acceptable?
3 - Is it worth the hassle, given its probability of being required? Chances are it will never be used.

I bought the collapsible spare from Suncoast and all the extra pieces and it fits behind the driver's seat in my C4S. Great peace of mind for a road trip. You should also learn to use the air compressor that comes with the car. Be sure you plug into the lighter socket, not the other socket by the passenger's feet.
I also bought the Longacre lightweight air tank, just for good measure. The Longacre tank is one of the most useful accessories I own, but I have not used it with the spare.

ADias - FYI, when I asked my dealer about using the 996 17" donut spare, he said that it might screw up the PASM on the 997.2. I never followed up thoroughly, so this is not confirmed. But it's probably worth checking out.

In a long driving life, I have had tires blow in very final ways, but my doing the repair work is what roadside service was invented to supplant. (Yes, I know some people go places they have no phone service, but that's what a smiling face was invented for... so passers by can make the call for you when they reach a service area.)

How many of us have had a tire failure on the road that couldn't be at least temporarily fixed with a plug and a compressor?
That said, I still feel uncomfortable anytime I've driving without a spare tire, even with performance tires with sidewalls so stiff they might as well be run-flats.

I have AAA for roadside assistance, but when you are in the middle of nowhere, AAA is not going to help.
As Edgy said, this is an old topic that the OP should research by using the search function.
