Default 997 "improvements" over early years

In looking for a 997, are there significant "improvements" on the 06 over the 05? IMS ? What else...

The later 997 use DFI and a variable displacement oil pump, not sure what year. I wouldn't buy a DFI engine until the EGR residue issue is resolved.

I think that TPMS became standard in 06. Other than that, very little if any change through 08.

TPMS became standard in MY07. Optionally available prior to. The DFI engines were MY09 and newer. The introduction of the MY05 997 brought with it several issues that made that introductory year car a little less favorable. The engine (particularly the 3.6 engine) has the same IMS issues and RMS issues as on the 996 cars. Also, assemblers often installed a couple of parts 180º out on the rear suspension which was finally caught in late MY05. The PCM from the MY05 is problematic, and will not play MPs. Also, without a keypad (numerics) it can't handle some of the aftermarket bluetooth telephone systems out there. Do a search within the 997 forum and you will find much more detail on these issues.

Ugg, EGR. I've dealt with that crap on my diesel trucks . . .

Boy, that might take a while. First, somebody has to show an instance of this unicorn to the engineers, then... well, that first step is taking long enough. No need to go on.

Default DFI vs EFI or even TBI...

All it takes, SHOULD take, is one look inside the intake manifold of any car with EGR and 100K or so miles. With port injection that EGR residue didn't get deposited on the backside of the intake valve, or was washed off with the injected, EFI gas stream.
