Default The South Loop

I spent the day driving the South Loop.

450 Porsche miles down Hwy 1 through the Big Sur Coast, looping around through Paso Robles and returning through the Western Autobhan (I5).

First stop at noon, Big Sur - Post Ranch - for lunch. Stunning Pacific views high over the Big Sur cliffs:

After lunch, a great CA Hwy1 drive down the coast - Lucia, San Simeon and Cambria for a fuel stop. From Cambria on to the Wine Highway - Hwy 46 - to Cholame (where the James Dean Memorial is located).

From there on to Hwy 41 (a great road) to I5 and CA152 back to the Bay Area. A great Porsche day!

Oh... and did I say the weather was fantastic? Cool 60s on the coast early on, warming up to mid 70s mid-day, a touch of 99F in the Central Valley (after all we need to feel Summer), cooling off to high 60s approaching the Bay Area on my return. Just fantastic!

That is a fantastic tour. I would thank you for sharing it but am suffering in Texas and am insanely jealous. Love the hommage to JD.

+1

They need to let sports car guys design the roadways. It would be all curves and blacktop (no chip and seal crap) with lots of visibility in left and right hand bends.

Thanks for the great post, Tony. We will be in Carmel 8/13 through 8/22 and hope to get to try major portions of your route!
