I know it might sound silly, but I finally decided to post this.
It's summer, most of the time I drive with all the windows down.
The issue I noticed, is the wind level. With the windows down all the way, the wind really "blows", it seems it all goes in my ear, I can't hear the stereo, it's just annoying.
Is it just me?

Try tweaking the airflow by opening it less than the full amount.

I drove like this for several weeks. It is surprisingly loud at over 60mph. I had to stop after I realized it was the cause of my hearing being dull after the weekend!

With both windows down, the residual air inside has no where to go EXCEPT right to your ear!

In fact, the last thing I need in a Porsche with the windows down is some blaring stereo that interferes with the sound of the engine and the exhaust. The flat-6 is music to my ears.

The issue was more of "the wind in my ear" more so then the stereo.
Im enjoying the responses, although seriously, I find it windier (is that a word?) then any car I have ever driven.

IMO, Porsche could help the situation by fitting rear quarter windows that pop open at the rear, a la my 95 M3. This has to help the situation by allowing air to flow through the car.

My Boxster did not have the wind blocker between the roll hoops (why is this an option??) and I didn't have the guts to drill into the hoops to add permanent hardware. Wind buffeting was pretty bad without the blocker (a two hour drive caused some temporary ringing), and I am now wondering if that might have contributed to "mild" tinnitus that I have had for several months.

So protect your ears, especially at highway speeds. The guy with the Bose headphones may be on to something.

Prior to 1978, Porsche 911s all had pop-out windows for optimal air-flow in the cockpit. Sadly, either to save a buck, or to improve security, they were eliminated, never to return.

With most of my hours in the 997 cabriolet, I can't give you any reasonable answer for wind noise in a coupe. Perhaps you can attempt the same stretch of roadway in another 997 with the same physical configuration, and listen for anything unique.

I know exactly what you mean, as I had the same issue with 2 previous cars. If you close the windows it fixes the problem.

After a long drive home with these puppies I'll continue to keep them on to watch Top Gear... I like it loud. Wife likes it whisper quiet. We've learned to compromised after 25 yrs so I wear the Peltors which let me tune in the show and her out when necessary.
