Since the day I took delivery of my C4 I have had issues with the PASM. The dealer told me the battery must be fully charged or the PASM will shut down??? Never the less, for the 3rd or fourth time since then the little beep happened, the "PASM Failure" illuminated and now the PASM won't come on when I put on the Sport Exhaust. Trip number 4 to the dealer.......
Anybody got any ideas? It's a low miles car that sits on the tender regularly.

You're talking about PASM and not PSM correct? Don't accept such a BS answer. It's true if you disconnect the battery you'll get a PSM error (not PASM) and that error goes away as soon as you reconnect the battery and turn the steering wheel. This info is in the owners manual.

If a low battery charge is really causing your PASM issue (I have never heard that one before) have your dealer test the wire harness between the alternator and the battery. Also have them test the battery cables. Some 997.1 cars had a bad batch of alternator wires and/or battery cables which kept the battery from getting fully charged.
After changing my battery I started getting PASM failure messages every time I drove my '07 C2S. The dealer replaced a position sensor in the steering column (under CPO) and that fixed the problem.
I had PASM Failure with my '09 C2S just a few weeks ago. Don't think it had anything to do with a weak battery, as the car is driven regularly (unless alternater is also not working).
Porsche shop sent off for a "new PASM unit" and installed it. 2 weeks later, still working.

Position sensor sounds like PSM not PASM. Did you get both a warning light and a failure message or just the failure message?
jhbrennan: Actually, I got failure messages for both PSM and PASM, one immediately after the other.
OK - initially caused by disconnecting battery - happens to everyone. Hook up battery and turn the sterring wheel and it goes away...unless position sensor is bad. Good that it works now but it was most likely PSM that failed, not PASM.
