GREAT new shots... look at the engine bay! It looks like a whole new intake system with 2 massive fans!

Also, the location of the engine is definitely moved forward!!!

now you see the genius behind naming this website "rennlist" and not anything with a 6 in it

Those fans are more likely being used to provide additional airflow through the engine bay and not for the intake system.

Yep, looks like a lot less rear overhang.

I hope that massive 'skyroof' looking job is optional and that 'no sunroof' is standard.

I think we might be seeing Porsche's version of engine encapsulation for heat retention. I remember reading that BMW was going to be using this and that they determined that for every 1 deg C of retained heat, fuel economy was improved by .2%. For a car left sitting for up to 8 hours, fuel economy was improved by up to 2%. Whatever.

Personally, I like being able to see the engine, but I guess it's not any worse than the engine accessibility in a Boxster or Cayman.

It could be a fake cover to conceal the engine from the camera... look at this, looke like piece of plastic added on top... or this part is removable.

I think you are looking at the exterior bodywork there; part of the movable rear wing. Note where the lid latches...

Both are a possibility, although a fake cover could have implications for proper cooling if it's not part of the design, even on the test car. I hope one of you is correct as I'd rather have the engine more exposed if for no other reason than the esthetics of it. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

The cover if it is real is probably there to address the complaints about the serpentine belt squealing from wash or rain water and to keep the water off the engine. (I don't know about other owners but my 996 Turbo even misfired once from a wet engine, wet from sitting outside in a heavy rain all night long, upon the 1st start of the next day.)

While there is a benefit to retaining heat, subjecting the engine compartment, wiring, fuel lines, injectors to this heat soak is not good. The better way is to insulate the coolant reservior tank so the coolant remains warm longer and upon engine restart the engine heats up quicker. Essentially the coolant tank becomes a huge thermos bottle.

Sincerely,

Macster.
