Last Sunday, like most Sundays, I drive my 997 to the Boys and Girls club to play table tennis. It is in down town Manchester NH. There is a funeral home across the street that has over flow parking for the club. Since Sunday nights are dead, those 25 spaces are empty. So last Sunday I parked in the middle of the lot without another car in sight. After 3 hours I come out to my car and find a rusted crappy Chevy compact car parked right next to my Pcar. The idiot parked extremely close on his drivers side. I could not believe it. I am surprised he didn't vandalize my car since he parked close to me out of spite. No dings thankfully. Have any of you had this experience?

At least once every 2-3 weeks I have this issue. And I do the same thing, check the car for dings. I try very hard to not park near anyone.
Last week passing through Napa, I decided to take a stroll on a Main St. Fair. I noticed that nearby the parking lot (on the police side) of the local courthouse/adult detention facility was open for parking. I figured that there was no safer parking in town.

Only safer spot would have been an end spot at the other end since most cars only have a driver opening the door.

So, did you give him a ding when you got in your car for parking so close?
I try to park away from other cars too. But I've accepted the fact, that the inevitable will happen, no matter how careful you are. While cleaning my car a couple days ago, I noticed my FIRST door ding! It was really not that noticeable, since I can only notice it when I look at the passenger door in just the right light condition. I've spent so many hours wondering how this could have happened! I even took my door panel off, hoping that I would be able to correct the ding from inside the door panel. But the ding was too superficial and I couldn't correct it from within the door panel. I'm pretty ok about it now. Things could be worse...
It doesn't matter and it's not just Porsches, any nice looking car will get that. I parked my Mercedes far away from all the cars and when I come out there will be a car parked on either side with the front parking spaces completely emptied. It's annoying but I assume they think it's safe to park next to a nice car.
It's a constant issue. I am not sure why people always feel inclined to park beside another car. You would figure that if you park far enough away, people will not want to park close to you.
We even see this at the Porsche gatherings! Last Sat at the Toronto GTG, some lady in a rusted Corolla decided park right in the middle of our gathering. The hint of all lots of Porsches and people standing around admiring cars was not a good hint. We were not exactly close to the Starbucks/Chapters entrance door either. Maybe she wanted to be sure no one would door ding her car!
I always park far away from everyone and then a lady in her Suburban with five kids will decide to park next to me. On veterans day walking out of the grocery store I decided to give $20 to an old veteran and then talk with another to be nice. When I looked where my car was parked (End Spot as Far Left as Possible) an old couple in a new pickup parks so close that if I didn't run over hop in and pull out it would have been over for sure with my first ding. I was just being nice and look what almost happened!
