Default Pretty good deal ?

Found a 2011 C4S Black/Black Full leather, 6-spd, ***,5mm,PASM,PSE,19" Turbo Wheels,SC,NAV,BOSE,XM,Sport Suspension -20mm, heavy loaded, list for 114685.
Trade on my 07 C4S 11300 miles $60000 and they discounted the 11 C4S $10000, down to 104685.
Sounds pretty good to me, and they discounted the 12's about half that. Still not sure its a good idea to get a 11 over a 12 right now.

So they gave you an 8.72% discount on a one year old car (model year of course), and would give you roughly half of that (4.35%) on 2012.

I know you are "in the business" so if your profit margine was 10.5% on the base price of the car and approximately 15% to 17% on the options, wouldn't you , as a dealer, be pleased to sell the one year old, heavily optioned car for an 8.72% discount?. My guess is yes.

If yes is the correct answer, then it's a not a great deal for you, the buyer. It may be a decent deal, but not a great deal.

Another way to look at it. You buy two identical cars, a 2011 and a 2012. You get 8.70% off the '11 and 4.35% off the '12. Four years later you want to sell both cars. They have the exact same mileage on them. Which car will be worth more... the 4-year old car or the 5-year old one?

Nice dollars on the trade regardless of whether you go 2011 or 2012.

Yup...prices on used cars are at record highs due to everything and I don't see them really coming down much in the foreseeable future.

I don't think too many dealers are having to discount the 12's. Small supply, short production run. Inventory levels on 11's are still ok but dwindling.
Here's your example in black and white on the same car same miles
Manhiem 7/8/11 25000 miles
2007 C2S
$59,400 $55,100 $50,800
2008 C2S
$64,000 $58,000 $52,300

if you got 4-5% more off from the start for the 07 , then its very close in the end. Its not a drastic change. So $10K off sticker of a $114K car and a $60K trade, still seems like a fairly strong deal. I guess a buyer can always do better of course, find a dealer thats been sitting on a 11 for even longer, and the finance money the dealer floor planned it, is very high, and it needs to go, or they have someone waiting on your trade that will pay crazy money for it.
Alot of things go into selling cars. I operate with $12-15K cars mostly, the profit after reconditioning is pretty small these days. If we get a 1200-1500 gross (I get 30%) its a good deal. More and more cars we stock have less than $1000 gross from the get go. We sell on volume. Porsche dealer car deals are probably structured much differently. I had a Porsche salesmanager laugh at a $2000 profit on a $112000 car..."just not right" he said. No problem, its his store and not a volume Ford dealership that will sell for invoice right off the transport where I work.
Still considering my options though..

Not trying to "spend" your money but if the only difference of going with a 2012 is an additonal $5,000, and it is optioned the way you want it, I would go with the newer model as you will always recoup the difference if you sell it in a few years.

The $60,000 trade value is nice and frankly more than I would have thought but the manheim values support your comments. But paying an additonal $50-55K, all in, to upgrade to the 997.2, when the 991s are around the corner, is a question in mind. Many have made that choice but not sure the upgrades are that important to me.

Overall, a good deal is being offered. I would go for more of a discount but you are clearly more respectful of the sales process since you live it every day.

Pewter,

You make some good points. Like I said, it is a good but I don't think it's a GREAT deal.

I, too, am looking to get a 911, but not in your price range. I am looking very hard at 2008 and 2009 Coupes and, on average, asking prices are actually up from a few months ago.

I hope you find and get the car that you really want.

all things considered, I believe you should pass, because black sux, and you should run as far away from black as you can.

Lots of thinking through the night
The 12 does not have as many options os the 11. The 11 really has some great options if you were spec'ing out a C4S, optional suspension, full leather, 19" wheels, sport exhaust, Nav, Bose ect. But its Black and not Basalt black, I've had black cars and they can be a pain.
Also the trade figure on my 07 is 60K but 5K comes from Porsche, so they are at 55K which is a tiny bit low in my mind.
And then you have to figure what you are getting for the extra 44K...pretty much the same car, but no miles, will be getting Nav, lower suspension, upgraded electronics, adaptive sport seats, few other things and a new car warranty.
Depreciation will be a bigger factor with the 11 than my 07. I'm in my car very good , but I will be adding about $450 a month to my payment for this car. Just not 100% sure moving to a 11 or 12 is worth the 450-500 bucks..

Get a little cool on the deal. Let them know you are having second thoughts, etc. End of month is in 2 1/2 weeks, bet you that it's still there. End of month might get you/save you a couple $k. more.

I'm not wild about the $2100 Nav. package, a $200 Garmin is better. PSE is heavy, expensive ($3600).
My 09 is equipped for me: PASM, no Nav. (saved ($2100), power seats, and that's about it. But honestly, it's hard to call a 997 stripped. Power everything, leather to go around.
An 07 for a 2012=5 years diff., new car warranty, 997/2 is a proven set-up. My 09 is just 2 years old (build date), harder to justify. The depreciation free-fall that starts the second you drive off the lot has leveled off and used prices are decent. So...
Bottom line is the deal will have to be SUPER sweet, or I'll just suffer with a 2 year old car that just broke 8000 miles.
Only two cars would work, both at Bev. Hills. 2011 base GT3 or a 2012 GTS with limited slip, Sport susp., PASM, and an Alcant. delete. And yes, both are black. If the GTS had been white, I would have written the check. The white with the black wheels is the shizzle...

Domer.... go wash your filthy, filthy car. You just had to have a black car...

I wouldn’t pay 44k to upgrade. The best deal right now is the GTS. It’s already had a $20k discount on the package and if you can get another $5k, it will be a good deal. Plus, it could be a collectable car.

Really? You're not sure?

Do you really need someone here to answer that one for you? I believe it's an easy answer.

You just bought the red car a couple months ago. Why don't you like it anymore? Maybe it's the hunt you enjoy and not really the car?
