Default Can I disable opening the hood from my key fob??

This has happened just too many times... I come out to find my hood open. The key fob in my pocket has come in contact with other stuff (2 other sets of car keys) and opened the hood. I asked my dealer if this can be disabled and he didn't know what to say.. A friend with a new BMW had the same problem. He would come out to find his sunroof open and windows down. He made a big stink and said if they can't fix the problem, he was giving the car back. Believe it or not, BMW sent a guy from Germany to re-program the computer and cure the problem. Anyone else have this problem??? Thanks in advance.. Steve in Saratoga Springs, NY

I hope someone chimes in with a way to. My car is a second car and it happens too much the way it is now, let alone if I drove it all the time.

Ask your dealer if you can get a 997.2 FOB.

if you still have problems or if you want the cheap way out you can disassembly the key fob and break the switch actuator off of the backside of the hood release button. you'll need to buy a new keyfob housing to put it back to stock.

Also I think you can have your dealer program how long you have to press the button for the computer to read it. Sometimes increasing the button press time length makes for fewer accidental actuations.

I replaced by 997.1 key remote with a 997.2 key remote from Suncoast and I've not had a single issue with the hood since then. I'm very happy with the fix - clearly it was an issue hence the redesigned key for the .2

I took the key apart & I filed ~ 1-2 mm off of the plastic "peg" that opens the trunk. I did it in January 2006 & no more problems and it still works.

Happens to me as well. Happened on a trip too, pulled off for fuel and accidently hit the hood release...did not know it at the time, and saw the indicator light by the time I was at speed on the interstate ! Pucker factor of about 5, until I could safely pull off and shut the hood.
