Exhaust thoughts
With the PSE on the 2009+ you have a switch on the center console where you can open and close a baffle on the exhaust to reduce the noise with the Bypass you don't. Yeah about $3500 with install. a lot of parts involved!
I've said it before, but one man's glorious exhaust note is another man's loud headache. I think PSE is perfect; sporty without being obnoxious, with zero drawbacks in terms of loss of mid range torque, drone, resonance, etc. Yes, you can spend less on other exhausts and mods and yes, depending on which non-Porsche setup you get it might sound just as good to you as PSE does to me. But don't take anyone's word, including mine, on what sounds good. Listen for yourself. If you can't do that, the safe route is to go with the factory sport setup, IMO. I've done the blind (deaf really) purchase on an exhaust and been sorry, FWIW.
I looking to enhance the sound on my standard exhaust on my 09 Targa C4. Don't want it too aggressive, just a bit more umpf. I also would need a switch to turn it on and off( don't want to wake the kids or neighbors @ 5:30 AM). What are my options. I've read through alot of threads, but they seem to lean more to the aggressive side. I also want to keep my non S tips. Thanks
If you want a litle more noise (and some torque also) put the X-pipe from Fabspeed (I have instaled last year).
If you want with valvule to open and close without change yours tips, put the Valvetronic from fabspeed.
If you put the PSE, you must to put always the tips like the S tips (2 doubles).
I like my OEM tips in my 997.2 Carrera 4 and I have instaled the X-pipe and the Valvetronic.

Thanks for the kind words fellas.. and we're making another run of them to be finished late this week / early next
They're pretty subtle on the inside as far as added noise so drone/resonance isn't an issue. They do sound pretty sweet from the outside (and still like a Porsche). If you want something much louder then one can always pair it up with some side mufflers too but it'll be loud....

I am new to the site and not familiar with other manufacturers. I installed the Fabspeed Valvetronics and I love it. Actually "I" did not install it, I drove out to their shop in PA and had them install it for me. After the install I ended up buying their Maxflo Competition Air Intake. 11 hour drive but well worth it! I am very happy with Fabspeed products and their service/installers!
There are several issues that come up when it comes to changing your exhaust note. First, you're looking for something a little more aggressive than stock, and second, you want to be able to change it at will with a switch.
The .2 cars have a modest gain in aggressiveness on their version of the PSE. It's very modest, compared to the .1 cars. (The DI is responsible for that--perhaps something better will come along for the 991.1 cars that can be reverse engineered).
As far as I know, none of the aftermarket exhausts have a switch so that the sound is switchable. Ditto for the Gundo hack. Effective, but not reversible via a switch.
I would normally suggest that you take a drive with a dealer car to see if the PSE is enough for you but we have discovered that time is required to essentially 'burn in' a sport exhaust to get a real sense of what they will sound like. No new car will provide that. Perhaps a used .2 with PSE can be road tested?
The last thing that you want is an exhaust note that drones on and on during a road trip and can't be taken out of the equation. I can only truly speak for the 997.1 PSE--when I was making up my list of options for my car, I took careful note of all of the comments I was seeing on Rennlist. Many buyers were winding up installing the 997.1 PSE retroactively--because it was so good. I opted to get it from the start. I think it's one of the better options for these cars. The stock exhaust note for these water boxers is completely inadequate, especially when you come from the air-cooled Porsche world.

I have been thinking about doing the Gundo hack and using some electric cut out valves so I could turn the volume down when needed. Any one tried this? Not sure how much room is there but I found some cut outs on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
To clarify I am talking about using just the valve from this kit in the 2in pipe that nomaly goes in for the hack. Not the y and dumping the exhaust strait out.

I am also looking for a subtle sound improvement and have read all of the threads. I want to go with a simple cross pipe to replace the center muffler.
Cannot decide between Sharkwerks and Fabspeed. Has anyone out there actually heard both of these on a car that is otherwise stock (ie no side muffler mods) Which has the better noise enhancement in your opinion?

Make sure to also check out our Fabspeed Valvetronic Maxflo mufflers which allow you too switch between two sound levels with the push of a button. The system sounds great and also makes a power improvement in both settings. Here is a video and some photos. Its a direct bolt on replacement and will work with your stock tips or any aftermarket style tip.
Thanks and PM me if you have any questions or if your interested and I will offer you a nice member discount.
