Porsche World Roadshow
Anyone ever participated in the Porsche roadshow track offer?
I got an "invite" offer from my dealer, but cannot find any information.
Is this a complimentary thing, or does it cost?

Did it in Dallas. It was free and fun. The driving did not last long enough though, but was a good way to spend an afternoon. As a newer owner, it was nice to do some track stuff on their nickel.
You will get to drive the Cayman and Boxster models on an ax course, and various versions of the 911 on the road course.
There will be pretty girls there to take your order for expensive cars.

On the ax course, an instructor rides with you with his hand on the shifter (all of the cars were PDKs). The instructors I was with let me drive as fast as I could. Some folks were driving much faster than others, probably due to their own comfort levels rather than imposed limitations.
The funny thing was that my son went with me and videoed my turn in the Cayman R. I thought I was going ***** to the wall. When I watched the video, I thought I was driving embarrasingly slow.
The 911s were on a road course, with 4 lined up behind an instructor car. The instructor would gradually increase speed based on his perception of whether those following could safely keep up. We were hitting speeds of 100-110+ ish in the straight (which was somewhat short). A friend that went earlier in the weekend said his group never went over about 80 mph. It probably depends on what instructor you get, and what the abilities of the other drivers in your train are.
The process in the 911s was that there were two drivers per car. The first driver did 2 laps, then the train pulls into the pit. The drivers switch seats and then head back out for 2 laps. Come back into the pit, move to the car in front of you, and head back out for 2 laps. Do that until each driver drove 4 cars for 2 laps each.

403portside and I attended the one in SF at Candlestick a few weeks back.
My thoughts:
* Three sections:
- Road test with an existing Porsche model with a Porsche Marketing guy as copilot
- "Track" test (in follow the leader format) with a partner (swapping each lap) behind a pro driver in 911's of different stripes
- "Autocross" test (with pro driver copilot) in each of 4 current models, e.g. Boxster, Boxster S, Boxster Spyder and Cayman R (in my section)
* Very good in terms of customer service - you feel very well taken care of (e.g. everyone is SUPER nice)
* A bit disorganized, especially on time (we were the last session of the day and we were cut short on the Auto Cross section)
* All cars are PDK which is a bit disappointing for those of us who prefer to try manual.
Conclusion:
Lots of fun for amateurs like me, but probably boring if you are a track monkey.

On the 1-mile follow-the-leader track (in a 911) watch if the car in front of you is driven by a "guest" of the P-car fan invitee. I had one in front of me driving slower than molasses, except when she decided to go hot on a turn and lost control.

where is it being held, and for how many days? the one in LA accommodated a few hundred people over several days at Cal Speedway (aka Auto Club Speedway).
it was a fun experience, but having tracked several 911's it didn't blow my mind. but it's always great to hoon someone else's cars.
I also did the "extended test drive" in the Cayenne Hybrid on the streets around the track.

Nothing like a dealer (New Country Porsche) extending an invitation to a full event. I tried to register within an hour of getting the code from the dealer.
Pretty disappointing.
