I love my GTS and know how excited you must be. I pulled the plug and cable tied it to keep it from moving around. After a while I plugged it back in because at times, I like it quieter (talking on the phone, etc).

Thanks for the info. I will start will the pulled plug for sure and hope its ok with the neighbours.
Would u say the pulled plug makes a big difference to the normal exhaust button on mode ?

Pulling the plug provides the same effect as pressing the button for the exhaust on mode. It's not any louder, it's just on all the time.

No it will be the same. However, the exhaust will get louder / deeper as you put mileage on it. It has sort of a "break in" period. As far as the neighbors, I feel it's not offensive like that. I bet my neighbors enjoy hearing that sweet exhaust, I sure do!

With my previous 997.1 I noticed the cut-out when it got quieter around 25-35 mph with the PSE on and I pulled the plug because I found it annoying to get nice sounding then quiet then nice sounding again. However, with the new 997.2, I don't hear any difference in sound as I'm driving through that speed range. Maybe it's different in Europe?

I will see and let you know. According to what i heard there should be a difference for the EU Modells. To match the strikt regulations in the EU the PSE has a programmend "quite" zone even if its activated especially from 30-70 km/h needed for the citys. That also fits the area in which the noise measurements for drive by are made. Thats why the deactivation is such ab big topic in Germany...

A Harley also only sounds like it should be in the states !

I own a new 2011 GTS and was of the opinion that PSE doesn't cut in and out with speed/revs like the C2S did unless the "always on" mod was performed?

I thought PSE, on a GTS, was either on or off depending on whether the button on the dash was pushed or not?

I don't understand about the "cut-out". When does it cut-out and on what models? I am not aware of any cut-out in my 997.2S when the button is on. The only time I can say it shuts off, is when you first start the car. At start up, it is automatically on, but then shuts off after a few seconds. I need to then put it on at that point.

I can't detect any drop off in sound at any point in the rev/speed range on my PSE equipped '09 C2S. This has been discussed before, and it may be that on the 997.2 PSE was modified so that it meets noise requirements worldwide without the cutout. Either that or US versions now have different controls than European versions.

In order to meet certain Euro noise regulations, the 996 and 997.1 cars which were fitted with PSE and all of the wiring, will temporarily revert to "quiet" mode even when the "loud" mode was activated. This temporary "quiet" mode (a.k.a "cut-out") is controlled by the ECU and would occur in the 25-ish to 45-ish MPH range. Once you got past the "cut-out" range, the 'loud" mode would be restored.

It is interesting to note that a few of you that have a 997.2 with PSE have stated that you do not notice a drop in sound volume (cut-out) in your cars. Is it possible that Porsche changed the 997.2 ECU programming for the North American cars so they do not "cut out" while they are in loud mode?

Either that or the 997.2 PSE has been modified (quieted) relative to the 997.1 version to meet the EU regulations throughout the rev/speed range. In any event, my '09 PSE does not exhibit the cut-out.

Having had PSE on both my 2006 S and my 2011 GTS, I'd say the PSE is not as deep (or loud) in the 997.2, and that it doesn't seem to have the mid-range drop-outs the 97.1 version did.
However, my GTS has just under 4K miles, so the exhaust is not exactly seasoned yet, and as I recall, my '06 PSE definitely got deeper sounding with age.
Hoping the same will happen with the GTS.

Mike,

I think it could be the 3rd (center) muffler (actually it is a resonance chamber) that has "quieted" the sound. I believe it has muted the stock muffler sound and well as the PSE sound.

Is it only me, but does seeing "Carrera GTS" make one think of a 904?
