backing up: don't want to sound ignorant

I track the EXACT changes in the red central stop light and the reflections it makes on the wall I am backing up into. When the reflection drops down to the level of the bottom of the rear window, I stop. Voila! I have never hit the wall. Try it out a couple of times against something soft so as you get the hang of it with no inadvert damage. Why pay for the Parking Sensors when you have eyes!
P.s. Besides, they weigh too much...

I agree, with the high seat backs, and low seating position, and a steel plate in my C-spine, making it hard to turn my head very far side to side, it is a bit tricky to carefully back into a narrow parking place. I never hold a door open when backing up. Many years ago, was rebuilding a VW at the Ft. Bragg, NC, post autoshop, and some soldier drove his MGB into a bay, did some momentary thing, then backed out, holding his driver door slightly open. It caught on the cinder block door wall, and crumpled his driver's door, which buckled his left fender, and when the stunned trooper got out in disbelief to look at his damage, his windshield slowly developed a large crack, and the grill fell out.
To this day, i never ever back with a door open. That vision of his MGB has stayed with me for 40 years.
If i can figure out how to post a picture, I'll put up a pic of the BBW wheels i just put on my '07 997S. Cost me $16 to get all four tires demounted from the Classic wheels, the TPS sensors moved, and four tires then put on the BBS, and then perfectly balanced. A pizza was involved.
All the best....

You just need to remember that the hips of your car are no wider than your mirrors... so when backing up use your mirrors and the BLRPDI (Brake Light Reflection Parking Distance Indicator). Mmmmkay?
