Here's a tip for you. Cover the end of your torque wrench with a kid's sock.

This socket set protects the outside of the socket by using softer aluminum (instead of the usual steel). Years ago a guy invented a thing called the Softsocket which we all used in the Porsche world to keep from damaging the very soft aluminum nuts which Porsches came with. In time, those sockets failed because the material that went against the nuts was a plastic--and it just couldn't hold up over time. This set from Griotts Garage is about as good as you can get today.

Your toolkit needs a 3 inch socket extension not a sock.

I used the 3" extension after the scratch but extensions are generally not that rigid so I'm keeping the sock on there just in case.

It's the only picture I have, from iPhone, as of now, mounted new wheels yesterday in the rain and I'm now on my way to the mountains.

That's where I got mine. It's a pleasure dealing with them.

Great thanks.

Also on these sockets, the nylon inserts, do they sit only on the inside back face (thus protecting only the face of the stud or nut) or does the nylon insert somehow surround the entire inside of the socket which would then protect the entire stud or nut on all surfaces.

Thanks.
Just on the outside, I hope I answered your question.

Love the wheels. You definitely need to post more pictures!

I'm also a big fan of Griots. I've been buying from them for years. I've gone through four of their vacuums and two of their buffers and they are always quick to send a replacement without any questions. I wish they sold the sockets in singles instead of the whole set, I really don't need any of the other sizes.

Soft Socket is definitely on my list of things to pick up.

After struggling like an idiot to change the wheels on my car, my mechanic pointed out to me that my GT3 has 2 of the wheel hangers standard in the tool kit.

Second time around was much easier knowing this little tidbit.

Soft sockets look like a nice idea, but to be cheap just wrap the outside of your socket with painter's tape.
