Wheel changing tools & tips.
Thought I'd share some thoughts on my recent multiple wheel changes. Here are a few thoughts on what has made my life easier.
First off with some recently re finished wheels I sprung from some plastic coated wheel sockets - I can use them on all my rides.
Then I decided to ditch the wheel locks, every time you want to remove a wheel it's a hassle, four replacement bolts = cheap.
Last up two wheel mounting guides makes life so much easier with these heavy wheels and of course protects the inside of the wheel from scraping on the brake assembly.

Griots Garage sells the sockets. I'm sure there are other sources but that's the first place that popped into my mind. www.griotsgarage.com

Bruce can you post some pictures of your car with the black wheels and color matched accents? The wheels look cool!

Whoa whoa whoa - not so fast - where's the pics of your car with those wheels? Then we can worry 'bout how you got 'em on there.

Great minds....I have the exact same stuff. TWO wheel hangers is the only way to go, whether you have PCCBs or not--unless you're Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Great thanks.
Wheel hangers will work great on my front wheels but I have a C4S and the rear wheel use 17mm spacers that have studs by which the wheels get mounted to. Anything out there that you might be aware of that can accomplish a similar result as that of the wheel hanger you pointed me to over at suncoast.
Also on these sockets, the nylon inserts, do they sit only on the inside back face (thus protecting only the face of the stud or nut) or does the nylon insert somehow surround the entire inside of the socket which would then protect the entire stud or nut on all surfaces.
Thanks.

I use two wheel mounting studs as it prevents wheel from "rocking" side to side and possibly damaging calibers; two provide a more stable environment. And at $6. - $8 each, why not! They are very light weight.
Something else to add would be:
1) Use a breaker bar to initaly loosen bolts.
2) Switch to drill (I use cordless) with chuck to socket adapter, pop on soft socket 9mm. Remove top center bolt completely.
3) Insert mounting stud in removed bolts place.
4) Repeat step 2 & 3 for bolt, skipping one hole to either side of mounting stud.
5) Remove all remaing bolts with drill & soft socket
6) Easily remove wheel & your done!
Done this process so many times over past three months I can get all wheels off in a heart beat without incident. (Btw I have HRE 890R custom wheels and am VERY perticular about caring for my "toyz"...
;_)
